Heiterverzweiflung. Not a legit German word so much as something a friend and I made up in German class once. "Carefree despair". When life is so fucked that you can't stop laughing.

I think he means that although it could create them, it has actually never happened at all.

Ahh. That makes sense. I thought they had, in fairness.

Or it could be relatively commonplace and nobody outside the project notices because there's no effects on the world measurable by human senses.

Considering the amount and precision of the measuring devices aimed at the collision I imagine that if it was there it'd be picked up.
Smacking particles together and seeing what happens is literally the point of the whole thing

No, we'd know. It'd be written about somewhere, and then the Sun would publish a headline about GODLESS SCIENTISTS creating BLACK HOLES!? in OUR YUROP.

I seriously doubt the Sun would talk about 'our Europe'.

Me and my girlfriend decided to mess with the new skype voice translator feature thing, and we're dying of laughter as the translator basically created a convo by itself consisting of very pornographic flirting, indians and horse riding.

Curious, I looked - the closest the Sun ever gets to mentioning 'our Europe' is 'Berlin is in ruins'

That's not what I was saying. I was saying that if that was a routine byproduct of operations at the LHC the staff and researchers there would log the incidence rates or whatever and probably not care unless they were pursuing something to which that was relevant, and nobody outside the LHC would notice or know unless they happened to read something which mentioned it because there are essentially no effects of such happenings.

I think "routinely creates black holes" is of enough note by itself that it would be announced. Even if they're not subatomic particles black holes are still pretty notable
