Astronomy, it's like physics for people who don't like math.
And it's true! In both of my current astronomy classes I'm taking (for fun) we haven't done a single actual calculation yet. Tons of ratio stuff, but no actual M1 = X, M2 = Y find G type stuff.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

F=GMm/r^2
Deal with it.

And while astronomy might maybe not deal directly with forces there's no way you can ignore T=2pi*sqrt(a^3/GM)

Well yeah, but my point is that the questions they are asking don't directly deal with the numbers. It's like instead of asking us what the period of the satellite would be, they ask, "if we had two satellites and one was twice as far away as the other, what would be the relationship of their orbit times". It's not that the math isn't there, it's just that they never have you actually do any of it.

Huh. That's interesting. Then again I shouldn't be surprised. I've been mad disappointed in AS physics so far for its hideous attitude towards things that can be solved with some simple maths. Like making you do scale drawings of vectors to add them. And probably worse is how they want us to find the area under graphs. Integration or trapeziums? Naah, a triangle and a rectangle that sort of fit, maybe a third shape tops. Fucking disgusting.

Yeah, sadly A-level physics is designed for people who don't do maths. Simple logs is about  as hard as it gets.

On the plus side, it makes uni all the more interesting. If you have any intention of seriously pursuing physics, brush up on your integration, and everything will be awesome :D

Oh, and vectors - proper vectors methods, like done in further maths (if I remember correctly.)

Yes I do maths so that's fine. Everyone who does physics here does maths, in fact. I imagine that's the case a lot of the time, since there's a huge overlap in the people interested in each.

Hilarious weather report temperatures.
Somehow, this is brilliant on so many levels. I want to turn it into a story somehow.

A2 is even worse for integration, I'm afraid.

Much, much, much worse. Trust me.

My friends and I were making lunch at a jam session and ended up joking that Rock Hard as Butter would be a good name for our act.
