He could be crying because that was the only squad member who knew how to operate and maintain the squad's plasma cannon

That explains why he's dead.

He's proably saving the squad Plasma weapons operator for later. After all, bionics are a thing (in the Grim Darkness of Far Future it's much easier and faster to just weld an metal arm on a man than train someone else to do his job) and apparently the veteran (Grenadiers and above, though cheap limb replacements are proably common down below too) Death Guardsmen actually have much easier access to them than other regiments, mainly because Departmento Munitorum has a raging hard-on for them and if you somehow get to be a veteran Guardsman in Death Korps then you're either incredibly lucky (which means bionics they will give to you will be lucky too) or incredibly fucking deadly (which means you will be even more deadlier after you get them).

Just a note on the Krieger; he was probably holding his comrade to eat later. Human flesh may not have good nutritional value, but waste not want not.

Cannibalism isn't heresy if you leave the skull. Than its holy.

It is frowned upon if you don't render them into protein paste first though.

Gnawing on bones is macabre, dissolving them into a nutritious snackbar is A ok!  :D

Plus sludge is easier to eat/drink and that means less time spent without a gas mask on.

Yeah, but what's the words when it comes to eating the DREADED AND HATEFUL xenos? Do devour or just simply burn?

Also, heretics. Do we get corrupted by the delicious, supple flesh?

Eating, I imagine, is mostly OK for nonintelligent life.
Common food is grox, after all, which is a big alien lizard cow thing, which didn't originate on Terra.

For something like a Tau... I would probably guess not.

Eating something corrupted by Chaos is a very, very bad idea.

Have I yet posted here the awesome and complex dream I had about the rise of the kroot?

One ate an Ethereal and it went from there. It was a heckuva ride. If I had any art skills I'd have run the series on /tg already.

Hm... how about squig?
I think it's more likely the squig eats you... but regardless, ork food is probably rather dangerous to human health.

As an interesting note, human foods modified by xenos makes it illegal, as xenos technology.
Wheat is legal, wheat modified by xenos for higher crop yields is not.

Huh, that's interesting, actually. The Imperium is one of the curious regimes I've ever seen; refusing to do the thing that could massively assist it becuase HERESY.

I could write a paper on these guys; they're like Medieval Europe but a hundred times worse and with weaponized space cathedrals.

Except they don't do it because they're stupid, they do it because they're genre savvy. High output crops modified by Xenos in Wh40k would proably be insanely deadly to Humans, mutate them or turn to Chaos. They sacrifice things that could seriously help them for purity, because purity is the only way humanity can survive.

The general rule of thumb in 40k is that for every species that genuinely wants to coexist and be friends with humanity there are 100 that want to kill/enslave and/or eat us, and most of the latter are good at pretending to be the former. Even the ones that would like to be friends are often inimical to human life in some fashion.
