Nothing. He could be called an elf for all he cared, as long as elves were also called dwarves. He'd be insulted by being called a dwarf, and all it would take is one extra-long booze break.

What would Urist do if he was a sporeling (Spore, obviously; creature that cab rapidly evolve, more or less, sometimes even change its form depending on the spinoff)?

Shapeshift into an elf, sneak into their camp, kill everyone, harvest the trees, leave nothing but scorched earth behind and return to the fortress with the spoils of war without remembering to resume dwarven form.

Start exercising to lose weight without getting melted.

Urist McContestant has the choice of three levers. One will grant him all the booze he ever wanted - the other two are linked to the Self-Annihilation mechanisms that will reduce the entire Fortress to dust. Urist chooses a lever at random. Before he makes the pull, the Court Mechanic arrives, points at a lever Urist didn't choose and tells Urist that that lever is connected to the Self-Annihilation mechanisms. So, now Urist has a choice - he can pull the lever he chose initially, switch to the other still unknown lever or just screw it all and pull the certain doom lever. WWUD?
