I have always had a good reason for Urist to do nothing. At first it was the best answer, now merely a good one.

It is rare that a thread is derailed with an argument.

But it's usually either about politics or how the game should be rebalanced. Or how awesome ancient Japanese metalsmiths were.

If the peacecorps showed up on Anenu, Urist would join them to get close to the starving elf villages. Then murder all the starving elves. Hunger problem solved.

WWUD if confronted with the ham sandwich of life and death?

Eat it, if he were hungry. If not, he'd carry it to the stockpile where either it would be eaten by vermin or by some other dwarf. Dwarven metabolism destroys matter, thus it would have no effect, while vermin would become Giant Sponges.

WWUD if a cave-in cut him off from the stockpiles and he couldn't reach the pickaxes or the booze?
