Use the trick of building a ceiling over the farms to make the "lit" but secure. While building it, he would fall to his death as another dwarf building it would see the floor as a great source of construction materials and deconstruct it. (Yes, this has happened to me, though it was my fault for accidentally designating the floor to be deconstructed.)
