Yeah I thought it was odd/maybe not the best idea to tease thoughts not one but TWO other games. I wonder if it was just kind of a joke.

I'm pretty sure it's a joke.

But that's because I'm an uncultured swine who doesn't know what 2.5D looks like (apart from perhaps Ragnarok Online), and how Terraria could be adapted to fit it.

2.5D has three meanings:

-A game like Super Smash Bros., where the models are 3D but the game is played on a 2D plane
-A game like Doom, where the models are 2D sprites but the game is played in a 3D space
-A game like Castle Crashers, where the game is entirely 2D but you can move closer to or farther away from the camera (usually represented by going slightly up or slightly down)

Regardless, I'm pretty sure that's a joke. Kind of a dumb joke but still a joke.

I think it depends on the isometric view. There are some (like Rise of Nations) which is an isometric view but everything is in 3d. Age of Empires was 2.5D, because it gave the impression of elevation, which translates into perceived depth of the world despite literally everything being 2D. Actually, I'm not sure that AoE (I or II) counts as 2.5D due to everything being 2D and nothing ever moving closer or further away from the camera...

Hmm...

Actually, the origin of the name "2.5D" from those early games was because while it looked 3D (the map, not the enemies) it was really very much a 2D map, and walls are just textures that are stretched upwards and "skewed" on your monitor to simulate rotation.

That's why the developers of Ultima Underworld insisted their game is fully 3D, not 2.5D, despite the sprites. The maps themselves are usually saved as 2D but the engine renders them using actual 3D solids (also why you could see the occasional polygonal rock :)).

There was an "it'll be done when it's done, which will be Soon™" style of update.

Yeah, just posted today. Still stuff to do, bosses to implement, face lifts, ect...

So my guess is probably September. I think I recall Cenx mentioning that date too.

As Terraria stands now could it be run with an Intel GMA 4500 integrated chipset? I'm just wondering because I might want to try it out sometime.

Lots of new items and NPC's and weapons and junk to apologize to fans pretend relevance next to Starbound make more money?

Eh. All that's really been said is new biomes and new items and new blah blah. I'm sure it'll be worth genning a new world and all but...
