So the thing I did with the clothing tests I decided to try now for weapons, to see if the ideas in my sketches could actually somewhat apply. Now, the context in which these races do war or battle in general is a lot different from us, so that has to be taken into account, then again, it still needs to be practical if it's intended for combat.
As far as spears, staves, polearms go, not much new was discovered. In terms of self-defence against wildlife/lethal combat, spears are probably the best choice, given all the benefits they provide. It would be very easy to perform jabs, thrusts even from this basic frog sitting position, there's enough space. With other polearms this is a bit of an issue, as the frog is too close to the ground, so in order to attack from this position you would have to grab the very end of the pole, which I guess it's okay with staff, you can whack that however you like, if you have a polearm with something heavy on the end, this would compromise balance and wouldn't be feasible. So I thought of this stance the frog would assume, rising upwards while still on their hind legs, in order to get the space required for the pole manipulation. I don't think they even need to "stand up" with the hind legs neccessarily, so that's neat. The frog compromising their own balance to give balance to their weapon, how poetic. There is definitely some type of a pole-sword, I imagine it being hte kind of mid point before Kvaksoi discovered the swords. They started with a spear, then applied a blade to it, then thought "Hey what if the thing was mostly blade and only a lil' bit of it a pole!". Thus, swords would be born.
Yeah I know all of this was already known, there is one thing the tests help me realize tho. There was this thing that bugged me for some time, and that's mobility. For a human, most weapons are not an issue in terms of this, now, for a frog-like creature, it would lose quite a lot in terms of movement with just one hand grasping something. Ideally, you would want the frog to be able to jump. I don't remember who exactly invented frog tactical straps here on the forums but their infinite genius has shined once again.
The frog shape is usually a hinderance, but it has its benefits too. I was thinking of strapping small stuff to the arms, but forget that! Strap everything on the back. You can have the most ridiculously long pole, if it's on the back, the frog can still leap. Of course there is the issue of the frog doing stuff on their back, their arms are a bit short and inconveniently positioned, so that might be a problem. However, I suppose if the frog was to carry weapons on march, so it needs to be strapped, there should be multiple frogs, right? Like a war kinda situation. I like the idea of frog warrior peers giving each other a helping hand strapping their weapons to their backs, it's a uplifting thought.
I haven't touched on shields before, and I think it's mainly because of this concern they would be too cumbersome and by design inconvenient for a frog. With today's model test I was kinda trying to figure out a possible placement. This obviously needs to be strapped, I don't think the frog gripping it is a good idea. Now this could apply to armor in general, but again, is it worth it? Would the encumbered frog be still able to fight competently? This pic could be a hyopothetical buckler or guard on arm, not sure how that would work.
Some kind of chest-guard seems more reasonable, would be probably too heavy but still, it wouldn't be that bad of an idea for a frog-shaped race. Similarly a back-guard could be applied and would be probably less cumbersome, but also less practical, I suppose the frog needs to defend the chest more. On the back it could be more of a shield-shaped round object, doesn't seem that off.
Now as I was moving the coin all over the frog's body, I randomly invented a new piece of clothing.
HOW HAVEN'T I THOUGHT OF THIS BEFORE this is so obvious
A perfectly flat round hat, held on a string around the neck or something. The shape is great, as it doesn't obstruct vision, yet provides great shade. And since it needs to be solid, you could make this out of reed you make baskets from, not actual thread so that makes it the quite essential frog hat. Kvaksoi farmers are definitely going to wear this.
This is a topic I wanted to verify the most with this test, the Kvaksulu Fakkeh swords. I don't have a good model for it, so a skewer must do. Here, I wasn't quite sure the frog would be able to handle it and not hurt themselves. This model isn't stiff and you can't bend its arms, so that is perfect for ilustration.
Apparently the frog would be able to do quite lengthy diagonal cuts from left and right, both downwards and upwards, with one hand, which quite surprised me I have to say. One-handed thrusts are viable too. I was mainly concerned because being supported by three limbs is of course better than just the two hind legs, and with a bladed weapon you can rely less on force. Though experienced swordsman would probably use both hands. While spears are absolutely okay, swords kinda seem to be hardly usable. Now this test kinda made the handling okay, so maybe it's the design that needs some tweaks? Not sure.
Also, if the frog was to parry with a Fakkeh, I think that would be a difficult maneuver. Since it can hardly raise their arms above the head, and you definitely want to use both hands while defending, the hilt would have to be rather long for the frog to pull it off. Maybe that's not the way and it would be better to do some combination with that polearm-stance to kinda adjust the body for better manipulation... Probably... I need to take a deeper look at that.
Now a Fakkeh you wouldn't want to have strapped to your back, because of the blade obviously, but fear not! A sheath on the back makes much more sense for a frog than human, in my opinion, I think in this case there isn't even any other spot it could be strapped to. Now here more than ever, it would be quite difficult to sheath it, but before a battle, companions would be sure to help. And if you're not on battlefield and you're defending your home, then you don't have it strapped to back in the first place, so that's all good.
A little bonus sketch, Kvaksulu tribal warrior. Recently I took a massive dive into Kvaksoi, their history, culture and philosophy, so that's probably gonna be the topic of few next frog drawings to come.
The whole weapon deal is much more important to this race, because unlike Kevekii, these actually hunt both on sea and land, use materials like leather and bone, and practice a sort of ritualistic war custom where the tribes dominate each other by force.
They also tattoo themselves.
