Uuuuh… my head. Ow, that was some good wine.

Ugh. Let’s see what I was working on while drunk.

Hmm. Communist revolution. Alright, I can work with-

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

oh no

1st Granite: Last time, we got one zombie which punched one pig, but I’m not taking chances. The Necromancers know where we are and what we’ve got.

I’m unsure about the mechanics of hiding while we still can in this place. Typically, some sort of shelter-in-place plan is prepared. I unfold the sheet marked “emergency protocols”-

...that works.

2nd Granite: It appears nobody is outside, so after waiting a while to be sure, Thob pulls the lever and the front gate slams shut

I saw about five intelligent undead and a few zombies on the preliminary scout report, but now all I’ve got is this guy

Additionally, the plans seem a bit out of date. Large sections of the fort are marked as forbidden, including the King’s quarters. Ah well, I guess he gets to keep his stuff a little longer then.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

4th Granite: The necromancer left without a fight. After waiting a few days to be sure, I have opened the drawbridge and lowered the alarm.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I’ve also taken the opportunity to update the emergency burrow a bit. It now includes the sky bridge, all of the current levels, and the farms.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I see Comrade Mistem is enjoying a walk in the Water Reactor chambers. Truly a marvel of modern Dwarven engineering. I’ve looked at some of the diagrams describing it, but I can’t wrap my head around how it works.

I wonder if it can be put to some military use.

13th Granite: The mine project has yielded its first vein of tetrahedrite.

16th Granite: Interesting, Zultan has not much to say about his change in circumstances.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We appear to be out of plump helmet spawn. Records indicate we still have 706 plump helmets.

Get eating, folks.

23th Granite: I don’t know if anyone’s noticed this before, but there are a LOT of salmon in the flooded corridor.

I wonder if this could be used for some sort of fish farm? We’d have to have a mechanism for-

WHAT

Spoiler: Bonus (click to show/hide)

No, wait, seriously. I thought we weren't getting any more migrants, right? Because the civ was dead?

What gives?

According to Legends Viewer on as I looked on Embark, there are around 60 Dwarves alive in the world, outside of the hardcoded 19 we got, so that may be where these guys are coming from, idk

Always good to see fresh faces in Runlance. I had thought our people were destroyed, but some remnants must still remain.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Welcome, migrants, to the proud commune of Runlance! Your flight from the hordes is at an end! Here you will find safety, warmth, food, and shelter, and of course, drink. For what you need you shall only be asked to provide what you are able - no more laboring under cruel merchants or callous monarchs! Today, you become a Comrade of Runlance! Long live the Revolution!

28th Granite:

Most auspicious.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There appears to be no aquifer to speak of in the site I have selected. A team of miners, led by our founder Ryukan, has been dispatched to delve as deep into the earth as possible.

2nd Slate:

I thought I told you that you have no authority anymore? He's banned the export of bins. Just last month he demanded the production of bins. Again, the capricious mind of the bourgeoisie shows itself.

3rd Slate:

I’m really kind of confused. There’s a petition - which I can’t answer, because it demands a higher official - and then this happens. No idea what’s going on.

9th Slate: In less than a week, our miners have reached the first cavern layer. Outstanding work.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

15th Slate: We’ve walled off the end of the stair. There will be time to explore the caverns later. For now, I’ve ordered the mining of all minerals and gems along the way.

also

He makes more sense now. He wants bins, so he doesn’t want them exported.

Whatever.

24th Slate:

To accelerate production of charcoal (which seems to be the bottleneck in smelting) I’m placing a wood stockpile near the charcoal furnace.

Also, it seems someone has left orders for the smelters to smelt gold on repeat. I have dismissed these orders.

Also, I cannot for the life of me fathom why the carpenter, butcher, and tanner workshops are out in the open. I’m excavating new spaces for them here.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

26th Slate:

The carpenters have settled into their new space. Production of charcoal is greatly improved. Smelting of copper and tin ores can begin soon.

The arrival of the migrants reminds me of another project I would like to undertake - the construction of a grand Hall of Knowledge. Though reading and writing are uncommon among our people, those of us who are literate must be prepared to record our history before it is lost forever. I have set aside space in the cliffside for this endeavor.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

15th Felsite: A cause for celebration!

24th Felsite: It’s relatively clear why smelting was so slow - the smelteries were placed near the surface, and each piece of ore had to be carried in from the mines. To remedy this, I’ve moved the smelters and forge to a specialized chamber, with a stockpile of coal and ores behind them.

Most of the fort helps haul the ores up when it opens.

2nd Hematite:

In Soviet Runlance, work does you!

I wonder what we’ll get?

I believe only a truly dead civ stops after the 2 migrant waves (check the 'c' menu as soon as you start the fort, if there are no diplomatic ties, it's truly dead). A dying civ can continue to get dwarves up to the normal limits.

I embarked on a distant island in a dying civ that only had 4 members (according to legends viewer) - by the end of that fort, we had 200, almost all migrants. The wiki seems to corroborate this.

There's a huge pile of bins sitting outside the fort. WHY!

They must have forgotten to dorf you. You are dorfed as... (closes eyes and picks randomly)

9th Hematite: The possessed Bomrek is just standing in the middle of the dining hall, unmoving. Maybe he doesn't have the right workshop. He has clothier and bookbinder skills, so I'll build those.

16th Hematite: The clothier shop is under construction. As copper is being produced, I'm ordering the production of ten more picks so the miner corps can be expanded.

I've decided to abandon building the library in the cliffside and am instead expanding that chamber for something else. Some of you may be able to see where this is going.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

18th Hematite: That worked.

I've begun an initiative to beautify the dining halls and main work areas, as most dwarves will spend their time there.

Also:

Excellent! The tradition of Democracy is strong at Runlance! Note that this dwarf was elected from the common folk of the miners, rather than the corrupt ranks of the bourgeoise. Hail Mayor Momuz

Although excess is a despicable habit of the capitalist, a small office complex shall be excavated so that he may better fulfil his duties:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

23rd Hematite: Good to see that everything is in order.

What could it be? It was made using a clothier shop, so it should be some useful piece of armor.it's going to be an indestructible sock, calling it now

We have also begun a Program of Occupational Exploration, encouraging dwarves to utilize skills they may have developed (read: I went into Dwarf Therapist and clicked every box with a number bigger than 5). This is sure to aid productivity.

26th Hematite: Migrants arrive again. It appears our civilization is not as dead as it seemed. I notice that many of our old fortresses are only lightly guarded by goblin troops. Perhaps it will be possible to rebuild?

Also, who ordered fifty bags? I am cancelling this.

28th Hematite:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A cave spider silk vest. Fair enough. Not the most useful artifact, but still...

2nd Malachite: Mayor Momuz requests the construction of floodgates! A most useful suggestion. I'm sure these can be put to some use.

7th Malachite: With a mayor elected, we finally have the authority to grant this petition.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

don't know why you need a mayor to rubberstamp this, pointless bureaucracy...

I'll put them in the most appropriate place - right by the farms.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

15th Galena: Even with our new riches, most of our people still sleep in a crowded dormitory. Unacceptable! I have chosen a suitably quiet layer to build new bedrooms.

Hey, those bags are going to be very important for when I need to construct a magma pumpstack in under a year!
(for the sand to make green glass tubes and corkscrews. p.s. someone please make like 150 of each of those so that I can make the magma pumpstack more easily

18th Galena: I've lined the front hall with traps as an additional defensive measure and security against thieves.

I've noticed that our masons are the bottleneck here. Lots of things are being demanded out of rock and they can't keep up. The solution is obvious.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Masonry has been socialized as well!

21st Galena::

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

To give the new masons some work, I've ordered the smoothening of most of the fort, including the food storage areas and smeltery. Look at them go!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

26th Galena:

Uh oh.

I see no reason why she can't get food. We have almost a thousand plump helmets in stock and she's not restricted or anything. Why...

1st Limestone:

Uh oh.

Ah, our first Goblin Siege. Normally I'd recommend drafting everydorf and just bum rushing the Gobbos.. but even if we're not completely dead, I don't imagine we have that many Dorfs left alive.
