From the Wikipedia article for Mark Twain's The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County:

Quote
Upon discovering a French translation of this story, Twain back-translated the story into English, word for word, retaining the French grammatical structure and syntax. He then published all three versions under the title "The Jumping Frog: in English, then in French, and then Clawed Back into a Civilized Language Once More by Patient, Unremunerated Toil".[6]

May have told this once but given my nagging tooth I'll take laughs where I can get them in this stupid godsforsaken country, and it got a good hearty chuckle when it popped back in my head earlier today.

Her: so why doesn't Rick just wear VR if he's such a shy pooper?
Me: Well, he'd still be pooping wherever he was.
Her: *imitating fast food worker* Sir, there's not many things you can't do at Hardee's, but this is one of them.
Me: *same fast food worker* Did you not see our sign that reads 'PLEASE stop shitting in our booths!' on the wall?
Her: *as Rick* So wait, what's the other thing you can't do at Hardee's?
Me: *as fast food worker* Human trafficking.

Was just watching a play through of WorldBox (Nookrium).  He plopped down a snowman, and on the screen popped up some text:

"Snowman, he knows nothing."

Made me grin, because for once I knew the pop-culture reference.

whodunnit: The murder mystery style. Rather strong. The main problem with this is that the AI has no plot for it, and then new corpses will just keep popping up...

So, uh... tried to change resolution in VMware, didn't really work out too good. This only happens when you set a resolution of 1366x768; every other resolution displays fine.

I'm am curious who realized "Hey, what if this screws everything up so bad they can't even see/read the message? Should we have it revert automatically after X seconds just in case?" Because it certainly helps sometimes.

2D arrays (that store things like pixel data) are usually stored as a single dimensional array where the position 'arr[c][r]' is instead calculated as 'arr[width * r + c]'. If something's wrong, i.e. the calculation is actually 'arr[(actual_width + error) * r + c]', then querying 'arr[0][1]' for example would give the value expected in 'arr[error][1]' instead.

Graphics drivers, however, are designed to handle accesses to a 2D image outside its bounds by tiling the image (by default), so rather than crashing horribly the out-of-bounds accesses of that program's texture just make a neat shearing pattern that loops on the edges instead.

This made me laugh harder than I've laughed for a long time. I may have a problem.

Griftlands is a great game.

One of the flavor texts (for a card named Cavalcade, gain defense equal to the damage of your next attack) reads:

“You just hit them so hard that they all leave you alone, it’s science.”
