I'm tentatively stickying this. If the list attracts abandonware or other "free" games, I'll have to take it down entirely.
Thoughts on Genre organization:
Type | Genre | Sub-Types
Type will be sort of an overarching theme to the game. Predefined, pick ONE that best fits: Strategy, RPG, Action, MMO, Adventure
Genre will be a more refined and specific genre to help clarify how the game will play. The 'types' can also be used, if they take a secondary role. (Type: MMO | Genre: RPG) Examples: Roguelike, 4x, RTS, TBS, Platformer, Simulation.
Sub-Types will be used to help give a good idea of what kind of flavor the game has, or what kind of environment it's in (i.e. 'zombie', 'space', 'mecha', 'freemium', 'satire').
Thoughts? Suggestions? Hatred for the very concept?
Or let people bump it once some new people start asking?
I think a might start a trend that whenever someone makes a new post and claims they know there's an older one, I will necro the older one. Please do that. That used to be a sort-of trend, but it somehow stopped being one.
That's because people are 'tards and make new posts instead of Necroing.

I'm an ass like that about things I dislike.

Dont hang me but...i got link for free games which i find best and there is added 5 or so games every week.I missed that post.
Now there is 1,535 games listed so far.

This really should be stickied, if only so that it doesn't have to be bumped on a regular basis in order to serve it's purpose.
This is meant to be a community thing. You can help out too, if you have anything to add.

The point of that statement was that I cannot put proper descriptions for games I don't know about.
Well except for Untitled Story

There are already several like that on the list. Just label them as 'freemium' so people know what they're getting into.

I believe most of them have just cosmetic improvements for paying customers.
If you have to pay to get the full experience and/or to be competitive with others, it really can't be considered as "free." We'd have to include all the demos out there also, because in the end they're also free games that give paying customers some extra.
Might be an idea. I would generalise that the majority of the people on these forums don't regard "freemium" games too highly either. There are different levels of "freemium". Just some are less tolerable then others and is more based on experience and willingness to put out.
A freemium/mmo tab to clean a bit the actual free game listing is a good idea.
There's a lot of free games listed here:

em, i wonder, could you describe the kind of games that fall under this category a bit better in the first post? not free flash games, but i only know that since i read through quite a lot of posts. free browser games? I dont know, it didnt come up in the pages i read. free downloadables? so yeah, a bit more info in the first post. it should inform people a bit moreDownloadables, obviously. I've yet to find a non-free flash game.
I have to admit having my first dream about a forum thread. Toady came in here at page 14, with a quote containing a screenshot of the game list. There was pirate links to like three games, so he had to lock the thread. If that really happens, you will be known as the Bay12 Prophet.
Weird.
Some download links were deleted, fortunately they were from easy to find freewares so re-adding them wasn't difficult.
But there's an entry in the "Puzzle" category that had not only the download link but even the game name deleted, and the "extra information" with some jokes about "science!" does not make it easy to figure out what it can be.
If someone can remember this one, try to re-add the missing name/download link.
The list seems to lack Simutrans, which trumps Transport Tycoon if you ask me. I might add it myself later.

It's basically OpenTTD, which itself is Transport Tycoon. They are improvements. Feel free to add it, but it's practically there already.

You kidding? It's similar, but not OpenTTD. Simutrans has, based on my experiences, a much more sophisticated cargo handling system and a much more difficult business model.

And runs like shit (FPS down to 5.) Also it lacks the polish of OpenTTD.

Added http://www.raceintospace.org/ a freeware port of 1993 Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space, done by the orginal developers. http://peyre.byethost8.com/BARIS/index.htm has the manual and strategy tips/discussion.
Reverted it to that revision, downloaded the document just in case. If someone can suggest a wiki to use, or another setup that would perform better, I'll start getting something setup.Well a wiki would be a bit big, considering we only have a list. Unless you meant adding it in an existing one.
Did we put Kerbal Space Program on there? Because it's awesome.Well it's on.
Added in the Bay12 Beyond Protocol link.I commented the fact that you need to PM jocan2003 for the account.
Minor nitpicks: ( I just skimmed, there may be more. )
30. Cave Story -- Awesome sub-type? Description: So very Awesome? That doesn't tell anyone about the game.
36. Daggerfall -- Dungeons are not random. They were randomly generated when the game was built, but they never change. They randomly generated the dungeons and used the results.
40. Dink Smallwood -- Awesome used again.
45. Dwarf Fortress -- Awesome, Awesome, Awesome?
79. Iji -- Awesome sub-type?
106. Modern Warfare 2D -- "Short, but fun." should be in impressions.
115. Open Clonk -- Awesome sub-type?
173. TOME 4 -- Awesome sub-type?
175. Toribash -- Awesome sub-type?
I feel like I was sent by someone to squash awesome... but "awesome" doesn't really tell anyone what type of game it is.
Otherwise, cool list.
I don't quite get it, why can't this list have abandonware?

I believe that the following URL should be added to the OP as another free games list:Label: Dig in Trash

There should be a note though: "No quality control is done, so you'll need to search through a lot of garbage."
If it's not added, I'm fine with it though.

What you need to do is go into your empire earth folder and edit the file WONlobby.cfg then change the value CDKeyCheck from true to false. This will allow you to play LAN games. And very likely use Hamachi or Gameranger that people report to work without problems like this.
Be sure to come by and pick it up before 10.59 GMT on the 14th of December, though, to get it for free.So don't wait too much before going downloading it.

Would be a very fine addition to the game list, as it's an excellent rts.
edit : oh , i just noticed that it's not going to be a fine addition in the end, as the free download is only temporary, after that it will become again a commercial download :QuoteBe sure to come by and pick it up before 10.59 GMT on the 14th of December, though, to get it for free.So don't wait too much before going downloading it.
I grabbed it. You don't have to download it right now, you can just add it to your account. Very quick. Then can grab it later once the traffic subsides.
This i can't say for sure, not being a customer on thier website i don't know their policy.Well it's the fourteenth today, I'm going to assume that you have it free forever because it's still up for download :)
But on Bluesnews related article (http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board.pl?action=viewthread&boardid=1&threadid=128346) i noticed :QuoteI grabbed it. You don't have to download it right now, you can just add it to your account. Very quick. Then can grab it later once the traffic subsides.

PlaneShift
http://www.planeshift.it/index.php
An MMORPG that is supported by donations from the community. The game is COMPLETELY free and open source. The last time I played this game was years ago in early alpha, so there wasn't much to do except walk around a little town and try to cause glitches. Of course, today there is substantially more adventure to be had. The game itself is lightweight enough to play on a netbook, and it has fantastic cross-platform support.
I'm always glad to accept criticism or suggestions for that list. If you have an idea for it, just let me know. I may not implement it, but I will try explain why if I don't.It would be good to add more filters, mainly for dates like *Date added *Release date
Im not sure but some of these games from freeware list aren't free but freemium!
A release date column could be useful, I'll think about doing that. Part of it will be finding the time to add that for all those games (or someone who would do it for/with me). Date added, at this point, would probably not work well. I have no idea when most of them were added.
For the Freemium, yes, some are. They're marked as such, in a separate table, purposefully. Some people have different ideas of what they're willing to call 'Free'. I prefer to avoid Freemium myself but hey, it's meant to be a community deal and enough were fine with Freemium to warrant adding them. That said, Freemium should be in the correct area. If any aren't, just point them out and I'll move them (after confirming it).
Seems Desktop Dungeons adopted a similar development method that Kerbal Space Program is currently going down. Their 0.2 version is free, but current versions are not.Actually Desktop Dungeons did that before KSP
Updated the description to reflect that, not sure if it should just be removed entirely since the 0.2 version was pretty popular, and already felt like a pretty complete game...

0.2 is complete and a helluva good game to boot. They should be calling this new version DD2 because thats essentially whats going. Full rewrite, new features, etc.
Then it's not free.
Someone should probably remove X-Com: The Two Sides, development stopped due to legal issues and it is no longer downloadable.

Yes, I'm erring on the side of caution. Getting the thread deleted at this point would suck.Yeah, probably for the best.
I think Spiral knights might already be on there?thx man! :D

Realm of the mad god is listed under freemium.
Not unless they are normally free everywhere on the internet. One-offs would not count.
This has no relevance with the thread... a free game is still a free game. Also, Elona (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=83097.0) for all thesnipAre you a weaboo?
I'll defend Yume Nikki as a great game if you like surreal stuff/Horror. If you'd rather not play it for whatever reason, there's a great LP, here (http://lparchive.org/Yume-Nikki/). I normally wouldn't go so far as to do that, but it's honestly a really great game to watch, rather then play for a lot of people. I just didn't have the patience to trial and error all the way through it, for instance, as awesome as the visuals were.

And now the bad part. This game has one of the worst communities I have seen since the Minecraft Official Forums. Players who use real money can buy "Elite Moderator" status, which allows them to kick whoever they please out of their room, with no reason required. They will often use this to enforce stupid rules, like "Don't pop quickly out of a corner, shoot, then duck behind it" or "No headshots". And these players are a fairly frequent occurence, about three out of ten games. Not to mention the entire lack of anti-hack security. Also, I thought that only worked if they create the room. Unless they added something else that allows that?

What if Blood Bowl grew up in a world where rules didn’t ruin everything? It would be Footbrawl Quest, fantasy sports tactics that streamlines the idea of zombies and knights playing football to perfection, complete with multiplayer.http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/12/16/live-free-play-hard-the-weeks-finest-free-indie-games-8/
Footbrawl Quest makes dungeon running fun in that it isn’t about the fastidious genocide of a dungeon’s ecosystem so much as making smart choices in order to score a single decisive goal. Tactical decision-making, not the whittling down of hitpoints as you purge environments of stuff you don’t like.
I just discovered Magarena (http://code.google.com/p/magarena/). It's basically a "Magic The Gathering" game, but has lots of cards and free deck building. You can only play against the AI, but it is incredibly addicting. The distributes files aren't copyrighted, so it should be legal.

I agree with Spectr.

Naev is close to an old Mac game no-one's heard of. Very arcadey, but fun.
Is this list dead or something? It is still here and working...
Outpost and Outpost 2: Divided Destiny (http://www.outpostuniverse.net/news.php)
Two games by Sierra that were released for freeware. I haven't played the first one yet, but it was described as a Simcity-like, but on a moon of Jupiter.
The second one is more of a C&C-like, but with a very good storyline. Apparently, the multiplayer community is still active, since the last news bit on the site was 3 days ago.
Anyone know of any good (free) space trade sandboxy games? I recently downloaded vega strike and the open source privateer, both of which I found sorta boring... The combat in privateer was just terrible, and vega strike just had a lot of boring cruising through open space.Oolite - spice it up with a few mods
It doesn't have to be 1st person 3d, top down is fun too.
Doesn't even necessarily have to be in space, it just seems like the most common setting for that type of game. Trading and combat is what I'm looking for.
Why is Kerbal Space Program on the list? It is certainly not free.It used to be free up untill 11.4 (something). That version has been replaced by the new limited demo.
I have been playing with it a bit since a few days (the latest version has been released in the beginning of this month) and found it very good, but sadly a bit crashy though (at least on windows)

Unknown Horizons is an open source game very inspired by the Anno : xxxx serie, and is excellent if you like this specific genre.
Bundle Stars are giving away Dark Matter on their Facebook page:www.facebook.com/bundlestars (http://www.facebook.com/bundlestars).I don't think bundles for $5 count as free. It counts as a steal for customers.
They also have a bundle up on www.bundlestars.com (http://www.bundlestars.com) that's around $5 for 10 games (I'm liking Obulis!).
OFF is an RPG created in 2007 by Mortis Ghost, with music created by Alias Conrad Coldwood. Originally released in French, it has since received an English translation. The player enters his/her name and is informed that s/he is now in control of "The Batter," a quiet man in a baseball uniform and the game's main character.
Flyff (http://en.flyff.gpotato.com/), a free-to-play MMORPG. It's a fairly bland MMO, but also a decent time sink that runs speedily on the lowest-end computer I have access to ($200 E-Machines box, woo!). It has an anime-style charm and a decent amount of content once you get past the extremely boring early stages. Keep in mind I'm basing some of this from memory since I lost my account years ago and made a new one just the other day, but I can't imagine it having changed all that drastically. At the very least, I'd say it's better than Runescape.
How much nagging is there in the game?

I remember there were several games (Civilizations at war and Farcry 1) that had commercials in them for being free.
However i don't think it's the case with those sponsored by the airforce.
Also since midway is pretty much dead i assume the always online DRM is dead as well.
Thrive, although it's being developed at about Dwarf Fortress speed, and has only really just begun with that which can be interacted with.it looks like it could be the dwarf fortress of spore.
It's so obscure that unless you know information beyond the name, it's nigh impossible to reach without a link, so http://thrivegame.forum-free.ca/forum
It's going for Dwarf Fortress complexity though I think.
And yes, I think KSP should be removed from the list.
Not sure how long ago it happened, but Total Extreme Wrestling 2005 (http://www.greydogsoftware.com/tew/) is freeware. It's a wrestling company management sim, sorta like a FM or OOTP type game. I have the 2013 version and it's quite fun. 2005 is I think 3 versions ago. (Its not like a sports game that updates yearly, it has a new version when it deserves one). Anyway, if you're a fan of Pro Wrestling or Managment games, might want to give it a try.
I've been into playing lots of the stranger freeware indie stuff recently - the kind of thing that's more of a unique experience than a coherent game. Some are pretentious crap but some are sort of refreshing, disturbing in a good way or at least good for a laugh. I reckon these ones are worth a look:

I think the game was free (=no charge) and that is conform with this thread. Right?
I think what he means is: "Steam is a much more accepted standard, which includes games from many different publishers and not just, you know, one."Which is exactly the point- make us trust Origin by giving away free stuff (and it's not like they can't take it back later).

Origin is giving away the Sims 2 Ultimate collection from now until the 31st. Redeem the product code I-LOVE-THE-SIMS to get it.My, thank you for posting this. I got back into the Sims 3 fairly recently, but the fact that it's still such a laggy disaster on my machine has been making me mull over reinstalling my old copy of the Sims 2 for the last few weeks. The big thing that was stopping me was the notion of digging out over half a dozen CDs and their associated CD keys.

Should LoL be in both the REAL games and freemium games sections?
Freemium is a pricing strategy by which a product or service (typically a digital offering such as software, media, games or web services) is provided free of charge, but money (premium) is charged for proprietary features, functionality, or virtual goods.
Using both free-to-play and freemium models, the game is supported by microtransactions (see store) rather than ads or boxed copy sales
Freemium implies pay-to-win, though? This is wrong (paying unlock things, but is not necessary). And that's why LoL fit in both categories. I think it fits better in freenium, as far as our categories go.
Also, runepages. Buying stuff that affects you in-game... ehhh.... I think your lack of actually having played the game betrays you again. Extra rune pages have no in-game effect, just saves a little bit of time in the pre-game. If that. There's literally nothing in LoL with an in-game effect that can only be accessed by paying, last I checked.

Damn it, I missed Receiver. >_>
Damn it, I missed Receiver. >_>
And the best part is that Wally gives us our updates. Too perfect.
It's a great proof of concept though! Lots of cool stuff can come from something like that.Damn it, I missed Receiver. >_>
You aren't missing much, trust me. Once you get over the complicated reloading mechanics, the game doesn't have anything else to offer. Just two enemy types, and an endless series of heavily repeated rooms. For a game that was made in a week it's pretty impressive, but you definitely won't be playing it for very long. Which is a shame, because if it had more... everything it'd be a much better game. More guns, more enemies, more rooms, some customization maybe... Then it'd be a great game. Or at least one that doesn't turn grindy/repetitive after 30 minutes. And the best part is that Wally gives us our updates. Too perfect.
Indeed. I would have missed Tropico 3 if it wasn't for me. And I've been thinking about getting that game for a while now. And the same with Warlock too. Thanks a lot, Bouchart.
Eh... Yeah, you're right. I guess I mostly hate Receiver because it pretends that it's a full game instead of a proof of concept. And then asks 5$ for a game which basically just replaces the reload command with a bunch more buttons. Eh, whatever.Fair enough.
And if Tropico 3 feels watered down... Then I ought to enjoy the rest of the games then, right? Or something... Priate Cove sounds freaking awesome. I guess I'll start looking at that now.
I have looked at Sim Tower before. But I guess I always got distracted before I thought about getting it or something.
Rather then simtower find yourself a copy of Yoot tower. Its the Sim tower game Japan got. It looks like the same game but with quite a few little differences that make it more enjoyable to play. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoot_TowerIt's literally the exact same thing. :p The ability to pick scenarios and build even bigger towers is a big plus though.

I'm noticing a disturbing lack of any of the Touhou games here... Say what you like about the fanbase, and I'm not too sure about the bullet hell ones, but the fighting games were damn good.Aren't touhou games non-free in japan, though? Pretty sure they're sold somewhere or other, at least the non-fangame ones.

There's a free game on steam called Spartans vs Zombies Defense. It just might be the worst game of 2015!
"SPARTANS! What is your profession?!"There's a free game on steam called Spartans vs Zombies Defense. It just might be the worst game of 2015!
That indeed sounds rubbish, but it's far too early in the year to decide worst game.
It can always get worse.
Steam? Do any of the jobs a games provider should? Nah, too busy doing the things that a games provider doesn't need to do, or shouldn't do.
But hey, atleast they have some customer support now.
I wouldn't call that customer support. It atleast exists now if you have less-than-the-best internet now.
I'm not sure what your point is. They sold big rigs at Gamestop and most every other place that sells PC games. Other shitware is sold all over the place at every game store known to man as well. Valve didn't put it on the store themselves, it was greenlit, I assume by companies that offer spam like that as a service.Steam is required to (atleast according to themselves) screen what they let on their service. Gamestop and similar choose what they sell, so does steam, atleast according to what they say. Instead, steam is to busy coming up with things like levels, acheevements, chat systems, etc.
Let's keep this on topic guys, you keep getting my hopes up with updates for free games :PApologies. Im done now. Hopefully its all done.

CaesarIA is a free to play game on Steam. Ever wonder what it would be like to take Caesar 3 and turn it into a Chinese bootleg? Wonder no more!

Thread existed since 2011 and only 44 pages. Sigh, we need more free games people.Did you miss the spreadsheet in the first post? Also, this is not intended to be a listing of EVERY FREE GAME EVER OMG. It's a list of quality games that various people have found and enjoyed.
Features
Play a complete LRB5/6 client.
Select different team rosters. Download your own favourite rosters from FUMBBL and add them to the "teams" directory to see them in action.
Make your own Bot! Check out the open source example that is provided. Everything is available to make a fully featured Bot, including the source code of the GrodBot to use as a starting point.
Play against a Bot, or play two Bots off against each other! The packaged Bot (GrodBot) is not too bad. Probably plays an average defense, and below average offense.
Instructions to play AIBowl
Simply dowload the package from the URL above. Unzip it. Click on the file "AIBowl.jar" to launch the game, or (using a command prompt for example) navigate to the directory and type java -jar AIBowl.jar

Has anybody suggested Treasure Adventure Game (http://robitgames.com/treasure-adventure-game/) in this thread? It's not in the list, and I don't think I've ever heard its existence acknowledged anywhere on the internet. Which is a shame, because it's a really fun game.I've played it a little... never got particularly far, though.

For what it's worth, there's been a couple (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=105446.msg3124110#msg3124110) theads. (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=96798.msg2784456#msg2784456) From a bit back and not exactly much attention either time, but they're there.
Does anybody even still has editing power over the list? The creator has been seen last active 2 years ago and the list has not been updated for quite some time I think. Perhaps it is time to make a new free games list for bay12.
Anyway here is Zero-K (http://"http://zero-k.info/"), a free, multiplatform, open-source RTS, where massive robot armies fight each other.
Featuring: over 100 unique units with extreme diversity, epic battles at each scale, realistic physics that for example affect the bullet trajectory, deep tactical and strategical decisions with dynamic counterplay, factionless flat techtree - every factory (and with them every unit) and building is accessible at the start of the game and only a cost of the unit matters, lots of tiresome micro removed - one does not have to baby sit their units and factories in order them to function well (as in many other RTS's) or units can be ordered in a line instead of points, and many other exiting features that would make this post look like a wall of text. I hope that got you interested.
Ps. Yes I know I have like 2 posts on this forum but I am just one of the lurkers that particularly like to observe the "other games" part of it and this was actually a place that I have learned about the game I mentionedm but for whatever reason it was removed from the list.
I think Shores of Hazeron needs to be taken off, but I'm not sure. Pretty positive it's P2P now though.
"Pokemon Omicron" and "Zeta" are much like the other older Pokemon games but with less barriers with language.
They're fanmakes using RPG Maker, not rips of the genuine titles. Legally speaking, Nintendo might DMCA them or something, but legally speaking, it neither takes away from nor replaces the original Pokemon. Additionally, they're Mac/PC games, and Nintendo has no forays into the computer world. They're not exactly competing, and "legally" speaking, it's better than grabbing a ROM and playing that on your PC.Legally speaking, it's all copyrighted. I'm not sure how much of the battle system and mechanics are copyrighted but I'm positive that each pokemon's likeness and stats and stuff are copyrighted. In theory they should be executing take down orders against any infringement, as legally, the more you fail to do so, the easier it becomes to infringe upon your works for profit.
UnReal World has been mentioned in this thread before but I couldn't find it on the Google spreadsheet.
UnReal World (http://unrealworld.fi/) is a Roguelike / Survival Game / set in the Iron Age of Finland
Solar Empire is a turn based, web based, strategy game, what some describe as a BBS Door game. Build up a fleet, mine resources, create planets, and of course blow other people up. Check us out at http://solarempiregame.ddns.net/Not working. It shows me a page with some fancy text and some code.
and as always its free.

Generally, I'd guess no. iOS has an absurd number of free titles, and to try to keep up with that here would be impossible. Mainly the list is for PC titles, and also for FYIs on time-limited freebies in the thread.

There's an alpha version of a game coming out next year called "Streets of Rogue".Related: Our own B12 thread about it with links, reactions, and more! :D (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=160406.0)
I suck at describing games, but I'd say it's like a roguelike top-down... Well, it can be a lot of things depending on your playstyle.
There are characters that can lethally or non-lethally take down enemies from behind (and player steps are silent by default), allowing stealthy approaches.
Most characters can use ranged, melee, and throwing weapons, allowing the player to either brawl or shoot their way through the randomized missions, though some characters are barred from one or the other.
And there are all sorts of items to supplement all kinds of approaches.
The website for the game is here. (http://streetsofrogue.com/)
Showing up as $1.19 for me.Did you type it into the search bar, or did you scroll down past the massive blob of sales events to where they slipped the free game banner in at the very end of the event section with a "claim" button?
Call to Arms, a game I spent 20 dollars on, just suddenly went free-to-play on Steam. I'm salty over sneaky devs and wasting my money but I do recommend the game.

Whilst this looked like it had a lot of promise I got stuck on the -tutorial- where you first get to play with a vehicle. There didn't seem to be any way at all to move beyond the orange bars, and no hints either. Taking the 'pro' course and the fairly-hard jumps until you're offered the choice of 'using a vehicle to complete' just wound up in the same orange cage.

Didn't expected them to make starcraft+expansion free. Also interesting for people who lost or otherwise incapacitated their CD and need to reinstall the game.
Interesting for people that never played it.

Now for Warcraft 3...I'd honestly rather they started with Diablo (gimme a remaster of that, and I'm never installing anything else ^^), but I guess it comes down to personal preference.
I wouldn't play Saints Row even if someone paid me.Err, what about it? ._.

Empires Mod (https://www.empiresmod.com/) is a free to play mod for Half-Life 2 that mixed Real-Time Strategy with FPS elements - one commander controls building placement and research while other ground soldiers do the actual fighting. It's a very toxic community, fyi.

Siralim 2 for Android (note, NOT iOS) is free this weekend.
Ooh, nifty. Free to own or just to try out for the weekend, I wonder? I did rather enjoy the first Siralim, rocky though its initial release was. Game shaped up really well though, so I wonder what's improved with the sequel.
You must charge your phone while playing!Uh, what? Is this accurate? Does it drain the battery quickly?
damn it , i missed it by one day.
Pretty neat little thing. Earth has ended, and you play as an AI in a spaceship carrying the last 1000 humans, frozen in their cryogenic pods, in search of a new home, as you slowly decay from the rigors of space travel and passing millenia. This is really cool, and would work for making planets for space-based roleplaying games like Traveller or Stars Without Number (granted, both systems have methods for rolling up random planets, and Stars Without Numbers has a pretty good online tool (https://sectorswithoutnumber.com/) for generating up a whole sector at once, but this is more fun).

I landed on the first planet I scanned and got a score of 5819, with 331 colonists dead.
Seedship is on Android too, btw. My high score so far is 10781 for an engaged post-singularity democracy. For any more posts about Seedship please go to proper thread (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=168315.0). Thanks.

F1 2015 (https://store.steampowered.com/app/286570/F1_2015/) is free until saturday 12pm Pacific Time on steam.Again? Last time it was just a month ago, around 23rd March. Interesting...
Just want to let you folks know - The ratings for this game read "Mixed" on the Steam Store. Haven't delved into the reviews to see why, but the game's still free and if you don't like it you can just uninstall it.It was a step by step remake of an older game. Which in itswlf wasnt great. A kind of weird clone of heroes of might and magic, with some interesting mechanics but overall worse. The bad reviews were mostly by the fact that it was a buggy graphics facelift of the older game
Alongside Unreal Gold, Sunrider: Mask of Arcadius is also free on GOG.Yeah, and it is pretty good combination of tactics on hex board and visual novel.
EDIT: That game's free on Steam, too. Again, maybe the different platform makes a difference to some people.
Hacknet Deluxe (https://www.humblebundle.com/store/hacknet-deluxe) is free on humble right now, not sure what it is, but the price is right. You could call it an Uplink-like
If you want just the visual novel part, you can turn down the difficulty to such level combat gets nearly trivial.Actually they have a game just for that (paid, I think) which is the same characters in a Harem-School-Show style of Visual novel (no tactics). Well, the same faces and names anyway, it's not sci-fi, which was a let down. It's called "Sunrider Academy"
Quake Champions (https://store.steampowered.com/app/611500/Quake_Champions/) is free on Steam right now.
Starcraft 2 has been free to play (mostly) since last November.
You have to get the battle net launcher with the game, so I think you need an account to play.
Coop has the three main heroes completely free and the other heroes till level 5.Coop is actually really fun with a friend, and you can still play the heroes once they hit level 5, they just don't get better. I didn't know this was a game mode when I downloaded Starcraft II, but its the one I enjoyed the most.

Oof, that's tempting. Only really interested in dragonshard, though, and don't wanna' ask for it if someone would want the rest of what it's latched to. Still, cheers ghills. Hopefully it'll go to a proverbial good home :P
Can I have the pack that has Temple of Elemental Evil and Dragonshard? Those two are literally the only D&D-derived games I haven't played, and I've been dying to get ToEE somehow...

If a code is partially redeemed because the person I gave it to first already had some of those games in their account, I'll see if I can give the remaining games to someone else. I think that should work but haven't tried it.
I don't know if making a link is possible because I don't use it, but I heard Destiny 2 is free on the Battle.net client for a couple weeks.Yup. Until the 18th.
FreeMars
FreeCivOh man. Made me remember the extended Civ2: Test of Time campaign. Good times.
Every run starts essentially the same, no variation on what (or how many) units are available so early game is the same cycle over and over again.I'd say most 4x games are like that.
Looks like it costs money, at least for me... I don't know.

Steam has "Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion" free "for a limited time".
Don't know much about this game. Seems to be a space navy war or something. Also the title sounds like an expac, so maybe it includes the base game?
Worth checking out if you like strategy space navy violence.
Geneshift (https://store.steampowered.com/app/308600/Geneshift/) is free until December 19th.So for a limited time you can get the demo, by the sounds of it.
Note that this does not include the Complete Edition, which includes "a full singleplayer campaign, online co-op, 5 extra PvP game modes, cosmetic unlocks, quality of life improvements and more!"
“Meet the indie dev who spent two years making a game in youth hostels abroad.”Talk about damned by faint praise. ;D

ohSeeing as how there is a 1305 page discussion of the game that might not have left the first page in the last year, that was kind of a forgone conclusion.
Also the table is so goddamn zoomed out...
Probably will look closer into it, though.
I just read that the good open source clone of Minecraft, Minetest 5.0.0 has been finally released :This is... bizarre... A game that not only supports mods, but builds them into the core of the game and even the concept of the game... I didn't even think I'd never see the day, the idea never occurred to me

No idea if mods and subgames are all up to date for this new release (at the time i write i imagine the heavy majority aren't) or if you're going to have to wait for a bit until each dev update their work(as the default subgame shipped with Minetest is a bit bare bone, to enjoy Minetest you really need mods (https://forum.minetest.net/viewforum.php?f=46) or a different subgame (https://forum.minetest.net/viewforum.php?f=48) ).

Something called Jalopy is free on Humble Bundle for two days. (https://www.humblebundle.com/store/jalopy-free)
Is there any specific steps to claim that? Because when I click on the button on the game's page, it sends me to the main site page, and clicking on the link to the giveaway on the main page sends me to the list of games on sale.
There's some very good potential, but maybe it's just that i don't know the program much, but once cards are deployed i haven't found a way to check their description again (i could while they were in my hand) , so i had no idea after deploying with cards were doing what.
On the one hand that sounds fun, on the other I despise epic games with a fiery passion
Get yourselves over to your friendly local Epic launcher and claim yours today!no :)
Hey, free is free, and therefore qualifies for the thread. Some folks use EGL, and that's fine. I don't like Epic as much as the next guy, but this is not where you grind the axe about it. Shoo, shoo.Fair enough. Nothing against others using it, that swipe was just for myself
Abandonware and pirated games
I'm tentatively stickying this. If the list attracts abandonware or other "free" games, I'll have to take it down entirely.
It wasn't abandonware though, it was just free temporarily.
Well, in order to pirate something, some type of theft has to occur, and theft generally involves taking something someone was trying to sell for more than zero pennies.Nah. Copyright infringement, yeah, but dat's not theft, per se. Piracy can involve stuff that ain't being sold anymore, after all.
Not sure if anyone else recommended it, but Unturned is a great game. You can download it for free on steam. No micro-transactions except for a cheap DLC which allows for user customization.
Thought I'd post this, because the devs behind the game Dominus Galaxia decided to drum up interest in their Kickstarter by releasing their full latest alpha build which they say they'll continue updating until they hit beta. They assert it's intended to be a MOO 1-inspired 4X that will build on its inspiration to become its own thing instead of following the treads of MOO2 and Civilization. It already bullet-points sliders instead of structure-oriented planets, plus stuff in common: ship design, separate turn-based strategic and tactical battle maps, and so forth. I see hyperlanes in addition to (instead of? they do promise strategic terrain that affects movement) point-to-point movement in the screenshots, and they promise diplomacy and espionage along with an "infinite" semi-random tech tree with six major fields. They also promise some interesting things about the AI that I'm a bit cynical about. I'll probably give it a whirl when I have time.
The Internet Archive just added a couple thousand DOS games to their online collection:
https://blog.archive.org/2019/10/13/2500-more-ms-dos-games-playable-at-the-archive/
Being that they're federally funded, I feel they fall outside the grey area that we avoid with abandonware, but if this isn't appropriate, then I'll remove it.
For anyone with Crusader Kings 2, the Sword of Islam DLC is free right now.
It's a sequel to the post-apocalypse game that basically inspired the original Fallout, if that helps any. Supposed to be pretty alright, from what I can recall about reactions to it. Definitely going to pick it up later this afternoon, heh.
Follow up on Azywng's post.Note that you need to do this through GOG's website, not GOG Galaxy.
It's a somewhat "hidden" but they also give a code for wasteland 1 along with the above mentioned wasteland 2. In your account, click on the game (director's cut digital edition), click More >Serial Keys and follow the link from there.
Actually, Blue Shift and Opposing Force are both included.

For those of you with Crusader Kings 2 you can pick up The Reaper's Due DLC for free right now. Thanks pal. I wonder if it would be possible to ever get the whole game for free, at least all the meaningful DLC (portrait one's aren't really important). So far I haven't payed a cent for this and got the base game and 6 mechanics DLC and 2 portraits ones.
Free Witcher stuff on GoG atm.

In that forum there are also packs of hundreds of scenarios, dozens of campaigns, and also the older vanilla version of the game. There are also some mods. Everything is free.
(please add to the list, thanks!)
The game has been free practically forever, actually. Matrix only has rights to sell the Mega-Campaigns, which are actually outdated and buggy! (They can't sell the game itself, they just bundle it with those megas.) Of course, they don't want to talk about that. The latest version of vanilla is 8.403 and has been for probably 15 years or more. Anything beyond that has been community made improvements ongoing since then and still going on today. The community has made the improvements that allow it to work on modern computers, especially Win.10, while Matrix hasn't really lifted a finger in that direction, they just keep on selling what they have to milk it for profit because they don't own the actual game.Steel Panthers: World at War (enhanced version), a.k.a. Well that's 44GBP I wont have to pay. Matrix publishes some good games, but they dive too hard into the 'niche' price tier.
(By the way, I've tried to get an avatar picture on my profile but it won't stick! What's the trick? I see that 80x80 pixels is the largest, does it not allow using a picture you have hosted on something like imgbb.com or https://postimages.org/ ? I've tried both.
Also needs to have the picture's file extension at the end of the link. .jpg, .png, etc.(By the way, I've tried to get an avatar picture on my profile but it won't stick! What's the trick? But now to something totally different:
GTA V is free to keep on the EPIC store for the next week.
Weirdly searching for "Crusader Kings II", Free games (special offers allowed) (https://store.steampowered.com/search/?term=Crusader+Kings+II&maxprice=free&specials=1) does not find it, I have to switch to "Any price" even when it is now Free. Aegis Defender is free for 2 days on Humble Bundle
Okay, it seems less ashes and more "anything with a stardock launcher" -- I'm seeing it with sins of a solar empire, too (mistook it for ashes, worked out anyway :P). It also seems to be strictly the multiplayer content, not the full game. So the answer seems to be 'yes, but actually no', heh.How did it work for you? I see the link in SoSE launcher but accessing it tells me to first launch the game. I launch the game, reload the promotions webpage and it keeps telling me "A problem has occured" and to open the game first. Do I need Stardock account?
Civilization 6 is free on Epic Game Store.
What's the deal with EGS? They giving a major title away for free every week now?
EDIT: the Aztec DLC is included with the deal
They are also giving away just the base game of Civ 6. I've seen it go on sale for pretty cheap before, but the expansions seem to stay fairly high priced, so I imagine this isn't hurting 2K all that much sales wise.
Since the Metro scandal I dislike them back then but didn't pay much to it anyway (it wasn't like I'm buying games anyway), then the chinese spyware hit and decided NEVER fall for it, they'll have to literally gift out almost all Warhammer, Starcraft and Age of Empires games combined to even get me to think about it.
One could always try the GOG Galaxy program but I'm sure it stills require you to install the Epic program anyway. Also I'm sure my Toaster would implode into a black hole if I even try to install something like Civ 6
To add on the talks about the epic store ...A game called Sludge Life is also free there for a limited time (Sale ends 5/28/2021! at 5:00 PM).
Noticed that for the 20 years of the Arkane studio, their old Arx Fatalis is free (probably on bethesda launcher thingy) if you join some newsletter or something
https://bethesda.net/en/hub/arkane20
Huh. I almost bought War Wind the other day. Can't seem to get it to work at all, so I guess it's good I didn't.You'd want the sequel, anyway :P
Unrelated, but I'm having a problem with the GOG standalone installers(I don't use GOG Galaxy). There's no text on any buttons, or the checkmark for saying you read the EULA. While it's simple enough that I can run it without text, it's kind of annoying.
Absolution is awful though, certainly the weakest game in the series.
Anyway, it is a bit short on content, but it is high quality, and it has been out for what, a week?
Hey all! We just re-released Strange Adventures in Infinite Space (SAIS)--the very first space roguelike (or roguelite)--that we put out in 2002 (thanks, Cheapass Games!). SAIS hasn't worked on a computer system since the Windows XP days. Now you can dl Chris Collins's working versions for contemporary operating systems (Linux, macOS, and Windows). Yay!It can be found there :
SAIS is presented here exclusively in its original pre-OepnGL, 8-bit, scratchware form, absolutely free and eminently shareable. A mod pack consisting of all of the mods and conversions made by the community is included as well.
Is A Total War Saga: TROY really free?
Yes, but only if you claim it in the first 24 hours after release on the 13th of August 2020
Football Manager 2020 and Stick it to the Man are free to keep on EGS right now.

Also watchdogs 2.
I gave a try to this Teleglitch for this free offer as it never triggered my interest before, and i think i found the game with the worst choice of font ever.Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Maybe the game is good, but certainly not good enough to have me willing to hurt my old eyes like that while reading all the logs you find through the bases you explore.
Mentionning ancient machines, it reminded me of something i thought i had already linked to it in this thread, but a search came empty, so how about a simulator of some of the famous Enigma cypher machines that decoding (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra) was very important for the Allied in WW2 :
http://users.telenet.be/d.rijmenants/en/enigmasim.htm
Still works on window 10

What's in the box?Would you guess?
GOG is doing a giveaway of Prison Architect. (http://gog.com)one of the DLC for Prison Architect is free :
Brigador is free on GOG's main page.
We will bring the people together, in a mass grave. It's a somewhat antiquated portuguese (language, not country) term for "someone who fights a lot". Lots of portuguese in the game.
It seems to me that the title is supposed to be a "corruption" of the term brigadier.
Run metro.exeSo you can just double click on the script (assuming you placed it in your game directory, where metro.exe can be found) and it will run the game and center the window.
Some notes regarding the killswitch:
- First version to introduce it is v32.0.0.380 (Beta version)
- Kill date is Tuesday, 2021-01-12 00:00:00 (12th January 2021), last working date is thus 11th January 2021"
Terra Nil is a reverse city builder about ecosystem reconstruction.
Turn a barren wasteland into an ecological paradise complete with different flora and fauna, then clean up after yourself to leave the environment pristine. This strategy game/city builder/puzzler subverts the conventional goal of the city builder genre. Terra Nil is about the restoration of a ravaged environment, where the lightest touch is best.

This week end GOG had a promo week end for games published by Deep Silver
If there is a Deep Silver game in your library (take note that Metro Last Light that was free on GOG a few months ago and it will count as it's published by Deep Silver) , you can get for free the atmospheric post-apocalyptic platformer "Deadlight : Director's Cut"
https://www.gog.com/promo/deep_silver_publisher_weekend
There is only 4 hours left to claim it (it was running for the whole week end) at the time i write this, so don't wait for too much if you're interested.
Got greedy and went after a briefcase while three armored ninjas were getting buffed off the wazoo. Finally they cornered me, I had no movement cards, and even my Big Block Deck couldn't save me from like 70 damage in one turn. Are you looking for How did you last die? (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=70414.0) thread? Or is there a way to get FITS free somewhere?
Fights in Tight Spaces is the game.
Learned the existence of a free open source RTS game named OpenHV.
https://www.moddb.com/mods/openhv/news/release-20210321
It's a game based on an unreleased RTS named Hard Vacuum (https://lostgarden.home.blog/2005/03/27/game-post-mortem-hard-vacuum/), OpenHV is made with the released assets of that rts (and completed with more artwork where needed) and using the OpenRA engine (https://www.openra.net/) to run.

There are also various games for free on the PS4 (possibly also PS5) via Play at Home, though I’m not sure if you get to keep ‘em.
I wish there was something like this for Steam, so you wouldn't be forced to install any steam launcher and worry about whatever they can do on your system to play your steam games. There is but it circumvents DRM and we really aren't allowed to talk about it here.
Oh, and people afraid of the Epic Launcher really shouldn't because as i found out some time ago there exist, thanks to some genius coder, an open source alternative to the Epic Launcher : Legendary
https://github.com/derrod/legendary
Legendary allows you to play your games you legally purchased (or the ones you legally claimed in each Epic free offer) in the Epic Store without ever being forced to install the Epic Launcher (as you can also buy or claim games on the Epic Store website without needing the Epic Launcher), the drm authentification is still made by the Epic Store so there's no illegal stuff going on.
The epic launcher was found to scan users steam stuff to get info on them. Epic claimed it was an error and that they have stopped doing that.
So I can picture it easily having the storefront and social elements (like chat, achievements, etc.) stripped out, but what else does it eliminate that people are concerned about?
Anyways, Gog just is the best in my opinion, too bad most companies does not get into Gog enough or do not support their product on Gog as much as in other platform :/
I think the witcher 1 is free on GOG? IDK they just gave it to me in exchange of the right to spam my email.
I can't really complain about EGS. I own nearly 20 major game titles, for free on EGS since I installed it about a year ago.
Can't say Steam has donated me that many major games for free in, what, 10+ years?
If EGS had pre-paid wallet cards like Steam has, I would gladly buy a game or two on their platform just as a thank you for many hours of free gaming fun.

Company of Heroes 2 is currently free on Steam. (https://store.steampowered.com/app/231430/Company_of_Heroes_2/)
For those that already got CoH2 at some point, the related Ardennes Assault standalone is also free. Here you can get both CoH2 and that Ardennes DLC at once (https://store.steampowered.com/sub/582839). That worked flawlessly for me.
And Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat is free on GOG. (It's called Warhammer Skulls Digital Goodies, and has more free stuff aside from the video game)

The background/splash image... is the red helmet on blue armor actually a 'thing'?
Those Shadowrun games are great, some of the best games I played last year.Looks interesting enough to install GOG galaxy and give it a try!

I've picked up a few free games thanks to those posts in the last several months. Thanks guys!
Download DXVK from the official repo : https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases
Extract dxgi.dll and d3d11.dll from the x64 folder, and put them in the game folder. Now just start the game.
DXVK is part of Valve's Proton project. Its primary purpose is to make games work on Linux, but can be used on Windows too.
I like the Free to Keep posts, but the limited time ones are basically Demos to me.
I'd never put in enough hours in a weekend (typical play for free for limited time) to call it a free game instead of a demo.
But that doesn't necessarily mean others don't.
+1Most of those limited time freebie posts have been, but a few haven't been free forever once claimed.
I thought it ment the ones where you have like this weekend to claim forever.
Steam has SteamWorld Dig 2 (https://store.steampowered.com/app/571310/SteamWorld_Dig_2/) as a free-to-keep if you claim it before midday tomorrow.
I tried Guild of Dungeoneering. It's a grindy puzzle card game. Prepare to die and redo levels over and over until your luck is good enough to get through (and making sure that you have picked a good class for that dungeon). Maybe it will change later on in the game be so for I don't see anything other than slamming your men against a dungeon until you figure out the strategy and get good RNG.
GOG is also giving away Crime Cities (https://www.gog.com/game/crime_cities)Nice one, while i never heard about it looking at the screenshots the visuals reminded me a lot of good old g-police that i liked a lot back in the days.
Cave Story’s Secret Santa is currently free to keep on GOG. (https://www.gog.com/game/cave_storys_secret_santa)Huh. 100% unrelated to the gameplay of Cave Story. Meh.
GOG's (https://www.gog.com) got a giveaway of Shadow tactics: Blades of the Shogun.

the comments on this are fucking brutal - people aren't happy about whatever went down between Pixel, Cave Story, and GOG.

Reminder that the offer is still valid since a couple of years : Witcher 1 is free to claim on gog if you go there :
https://www.gog.com/gwent-welcome-bonus
You can uninstall gog's galaxy/gwent after that without problem as Witcher 1 will be moved in your library anyways (so you can get the offline installers as usual)
While there are some annoying design decision (the horrible "rythm click" combat system in comparison to the other Witcher games, or the hilariously bad writing of some npc) , the game is still good enough with lot to explore around.
Oh and it's one of the best "drunk character" simulator :D
Today's Epic free game is Loop Hero.Pretty enjoyable so far. Nice retro feel thanks to the pixel art too.
I might actually try that one today.
Do you shoot and loot dinosaurs or do you play as dinosaurs who shoot and loot? The first one. Cowards. 8)
Today on the epic store, no gun tooting dinosaurs unfortunately but apparently there are animal people instead.
"Mutant Year Zero : Road to Eden"
Having no idea what this was, a quick video check showcase some real time exploration but with xcom-like turn based battles, basically Wastelands with donald duck and some boar guy.
Seems it has positive ratings, maybe it's actually good.
Is not too late for it? Or there is still time?
1995's horror adventure game "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream" is free on gog
note : apparently from what i read on the gog board, some languages version (at least french and german) of the game have been censored, meaning there are missing chapters.
get the english version if you want to play the full game then.

The game "Prey" is today's freebie on the epic store
A nice Half-Life-like game but with some crappy collision detection sometime, being stuck in a vent opening is not uncommon unfortunately (some people suggest to try to run then crouch to slide through them)
Yeah, I don't recall what happened, exactly, but something about that seemed to turn off a lot of people that were pretty enthusiastic about it for... some reason. I never got the exact details (and didn't and don't care enough to check, 'cause I'm not terribly interested in the gameplay anyway), just that there was something or another that drew a sudden and fairly intense amount of enmity from folks that were initially positive.

We switched to our own Irrlicht fork allowing us to fix many longstanding bugs (text input, fullscreen, macOS support, graphics) and improve graphics in the future
More efficient map compression using the Zstd format. This has been shown to result in 20-30% faster map generation!
Formspec and Lua API features including a better Dynamic Media API and a PNG encoder
Work has been done to implement dynamic shadows, but they were not ready to be included in this release
Lots and lots of bug fixes and performance improvements
Note: This isn't a first but to avoid surprises we want to point out that once you have loaded a map in Minetest 5.5 you will not be able to load it in previous versions. Make backups first. (Client-server compatibility is untouched by this.)

FlyUfo is free of charge, family - friendly online game, pretty addictive to my mind. I didn't notice any in-game purchasing either.
https://kevin.games/flyufo-io
Lol I've played basically the same game but with holes on hole-io.com (http://hole-io.com). Same maps and props and better fight mechanics. It is an addicting concept though.
After slither.io hit it big, there were a *lot* of .io games that came out en-masse.
Of course, with a huge market and only so many players, a lot of those games are basically fake-multiplayer, populated by bots instead of other players.
The game uses the original Amiga track data, sound samples and algorithms for the car physics
Anyone remember Stunt Car Racer
Ya, it's super sketchy.Its time to D-d-d-d-d--Duel
Dueling network is more of a virtual tabletop then a proper game, but if you are a fan of yugioh or just like to see what the latest wtfbrokenop card is its a good deal of fun

It's really well done, and is a -lot- more smooth than the Atari and Amiga versions, in fact it's running so well and smoothly that it makes it even harder than the original version :DYou better play the original game on an Amiga emulator. This is only a partial conversion that is doing nothing better than an Amiga with decent CPU power. My 1200er had enough power for running the game super smooth where the A500 was a little bit to slow. In the emulator you can choose even more CPU power.
But what a nice nostalgia run.
I played it on a 486 i think ? Not sure, but i played this game back in its days. I remember i was amazed by the visuals and the powerful circuit builder tool...
You guys are confusing Geoff Crammond's Stunt Car Racer (also known as Stunt Track Racer) from 1989 with Stunts (also known as 4D Sports Driving) from 1990.
You guys are confusing Geoff Crammond's Stunt Car Racer (also known as Stunt Track Racer) from 1989 with Stunts (also known as 4D Sports Driving) from 1990. Stunts was the game with the track editor. (And there were also Stunt Driver from 1990 and Hard Drivin' from 1989.)I used to love that game. That track editor really blew my mind when I first encountered it, probably over a decade after the game have been released.
Found this game on Steam after a friend mentioned it:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1609390/DataJack/
It's a sort of stealth-action game about being a gun-for-hire in a corporation-dominated world. It's sort of janky, but I liked it. I haven't played enough games that let me blow up walls.

Its not quite a "Good" yugioh game yet, but given the nominal lack of interest since this quoted postchain, Yugioh Master-Duel made by konami is a perfectly acceptable F2P card game to have in your steam library. Albiet i wouldn't say modern Yugioh is any better than hearthstone in monetization but its certainly a nostalgia trip if you wanted some dueling and there are some solo modes that arent pricey (let me rephrase, they're free for anything but your time) that give out viable decks and goodies.
Out of anybody's speculations the devteam on it are completely overworked to deliver long term goals (classic mode, more formatting, banlists, extra card archetype support) and you'll die to OTK tropes a lot of the time but its nice to see all the cards again and be exodia'd for old times sake.
Quick Note: You may need to create an empty folder named "Diary" in order for the save features to properly function, if it was not already generated in the main folder.edit 2 : gave a try , the "diary" folder is already there.
Next week it should be a PC version of a boardgame named "Terraforming Mars"
This week the epic store freebie is "Wolfenstein: The New Order"
next week another "mystery game"
1 Got to your Library,
2 Select Tell Me Why (Episode 1 of course, the only one you had).
3 Click on "Manage"
4 "Remove from account"
5 Go to Store, Tell Me Why
6 NOW, AT LAST, when you choose it for free, it automatically adds Episode 1, 2 and 3.
Sanitarium (https://www.gog.com/en/game/sanitarium)is free on GOG for the next 2 days.
But if you already have the Episode 1 (like me) the other two episodes will show as not free. Here is a solution from Steam comment, which I tried ...I also had already episode 1 and the other two episodes were added automatically for me, doesn't need to claim them.
It's almost not work mentioning but https://store.steampowered.com/app/1515950/Capcom_Arcade_Stadium/ (http://street fighter II for the Capcom Arcade Stadium) is currently free.Hmmm that link doesn't work.
Just want to give a heads up that GOG does not have my permission to include my mod, UBLaMF.
I was contacted on the 14th by an employee of GOG who told me about this, and asked for my permission to include my mod. I had already asleep by the time the message was sent, so I only saw it the next morning. However, I was very busy at work yesterday (only got back home at 9:15pm) and so, wasn't able to reply but did plan to give permission. I did have a concern I wanted resolved before doing so, though (specifically, how they were going to handle updates to DFU and the included mods). I did have enough time to send a message to GamerZakh asking him to confirm if he was involved in this, to which he replied that he was.
So after I woke up an hour ago, I found an email from GOG advertising the release of this DFU pack, and was shocked to see that they have decided to include my mod, regardless of them not having my permission to do so. So I guess GOG wasn't actually interested in getting my permission after all. I guess they don't actually respect modders' rights to their work. And worse, if they don't have permission to include my mod, how many other mods on that list have they not got permission to include?
The timing also suggests that GOG effectively decided to package all the mods together and set them up, then try to ask all the modders involved for permission only at the last minute, which is a pretty backwards way of doing it. At this point, I'm strongly inclined to tell the GOG employee who contacted me that I'm not granting permission and that they need to remove my mod from their pack. If I do so, I wonder if their response would be to respect my wishes, or would they simply ignore it.
Edit: I see joshcamas mentioned on the Discord server that he also hadn't given permission for his mod.
However, please note that although we find the experience very enjoyable the work on the title is stil ongoing. Some technical issues might occur, so it’s wise to quicksave often (F9) : D
📜 Community Alpha Test 📜
This Saturday, 6/18/22, the ECO Team will be opening the Fenla Alpha server to our community! We hope you will join us in this chance to get a brief introduction to Adrullan so far!
The purpose of this test will be for us to gather important data with the increased number of players - but also for you to see the strides we have made creating our world.
Although we are excited to get everyone's thoughts on the game, the main focus is more on server performance, and not on content or combat feedback. That being said, there is tons to do and explore in game!
As we are in a very pre-alpha state, we fully expect there to be server stability issues or bugs including those we may have not previously encountered. Due to this, please understand that we may decide to limit the server connections. This will be an important first step for us to widen our servers capability to a point where we feel comfortable letting people in more often, and on a wider scale.
The test will run from (tentatively) Saturday, June 18, 2022 12:00 PM to Sunday, June 19, 2022 3:00 AM (Eastern). If stability is looking good, we may even extend the test further into Sunday. After the test concludes, all progress will be wiped before the next test.
Look out for a public alpha channel where you can find out how to register and grab the client.
We look forward to adventuring with you all in Adrullan!

In 2013, Paul Cuisset told Retro Gamer that "The best version for me is the Mega Drive version. The game was created for this platform".
In 2020, the Polish Chancellery of the Prime Minister announced that This War of Mine would be added to the recommended reading list in Polish high schools during the academic year of 2020–2021. This was the first initiative in the world to add a video game to recommended readings in school.
Following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, 11 Bit Studios announced that all profits earned from This War of Mine for seven days starting 24 February 2022 would be donated to the Ukrainian Red Cross to directly support victims. Within the week the company had raised over £500,000. In total $850,000 was raised.
Spotted "10 minutes til Dawn" , a browser game very similar to Vampire Survivors (the player against massive hordes, with unlock of new characters and new abilities at level up)
https://flanne.itch.io/10-minutes-till-dawn
but super annoying that it forces the browser to go full screen.
Why would you want to mow the lawn in a game when doing it in RL is boring? It might be to you, but not to other people. I, for example, will not touch a (civilian) flight simulator with a 10 foot pole, but some people sink hundreds of hours into that stuff.

...That thing is still EA? I thought it officially launched years ago.
It's a nifty little autobattler, that's very dependent on combos... and a dysfunctional AI, at least at the time. (Let the tanks engage first, then glass cannons move in... no, don't run straight through that AoE... Healers, stop sitting in a circle and healing each other until the DPS dies...) I'd label it as a 'worth a demo, happy to pick it up as a +1 in a bundle, wouldn't go out of my way for it', based on its state at the time.
Exit Limbo pays homage to the old school side scrolling beat 'em ups and evolves the formula with a spectacular fighting system and a non-linear world to explore. Meet a memorable cast, discover a unique visual art style and listen to a hypnotizing soundtrack while struggling to Exit the Limbo.
It could also be so that they don’t have to deal with customer complaints from people who actually spend money on the game.
Immortal Redneck is an FPS set in Egypt with rogue-lite elements. The game mixes old-school first-person shooter action with rogue-lite mechanics. Frantic gameplay, twitch controls and an arcade-style feel meet randomly generated dungeons, a complete skill tree, permanent death and 9 classes with different traits.
Time to remind people that are repelled by the idea of installing the epic launcher with all the controversies they heard about it :Why is that, btw? If Epic was really as evil as they say, they'd make you install their launcher whereas they seem to have an open API.
Legendary is a legal and open source alternative to the epic launcher that allow you to play the games you own on the epic store without ever having to install the epic launcher.

(Also what is up with GOG Galaxy? It will show you your Epic Games, but it won't install them. Does it at least launch them if installed with EL?)
Looks like all the DLC are free, that's a lot of game worldsThe map packs are free, but the story/additional content ones are not - Scorched Earth, Aberration, Extinction (the three of which now seem to be bundled together as the base "Season Pass"), and Genesis. It looks like this is still the same on both Steam and Epic.
I have no idea if they are free only during the week or are free even when Ark is back at being commercial.
edit : looks like all those dlc are always free, as on steam Ark is to be paid for but all the dlc are free.
The commercialized mod would be Caster of Magic, if I remember correctly. And it comes in two flavors, DOS(-Box) and Windows(you have to pay for both). Honestly never was really interested in it partly because of that, plus some of the changes I heard about didn't sound that great.looking around it seems that was Caster of Magic i was thinking about indeed, started with it being an unofficial patch + a mod, until both were merged and became a commercial modification of Master of Magic.
Yea, MoM is now the remake, Bleh.
Yes, of my Grandmother and Grandfather. ::)Yea, MoM is now the remake, Bleh.
Your mom is a remake!
on indiegala you can claim as a freebie "30mn to die"
https://freebies.indiegala.com/30-minutes-to-die-alpha
It's on the same genre (nearly a clone) as "Vampire Survivor" but does not seem to have any class unlock.
edit : it's apparently -very- early alpha, explaining why there's nothing to unlock, so few different weapons (the "aura" is very usefull, the orbit thing sometime is, but everything else is mostly useless as even upgraded they're too weak) and some things are just not there like the "increase your luck to have a 4th slot" when there's no luck stats at all to improve.
Oh well, the free/demo version of vampire survivor on itch is more feature packed than this one (and oddly this "30mn to die" game executable is named "VampSurv.exe" )
I've been playing, and enjoying way too much The Sum (https://www.moddb.com/mods/thesum), a total conversion of Fallout Tactics. The game is completely stand alone and free, so I suppose it fits the definition of free game.
Never heard about this "The Sum" but after reading
https://www.moddb.com/mods/thesum/features/the-sum-gameplay-and-strategy-guide
It sounds like a very interesting game .

I played that game a while back. It wasn't the most groundbreaking or exceptional game, but I all I wanted from it was to fly a TIE fighter, and it delivered very well on that. For my part, I've been getting most of that from modded X4 (Interworlds (https://sites.google.com/view/swinterworlds/)), but X4 costs money. Free is free, and that's good to hear.
Hello everyone. Anyone by chances know if there are freebies of any kind for the Nintendo Switch?
Today's "mystery game" from Epic is Bloons TD 6. I still remember when Bloons TD was a free flash game. Am I old?Eh, it was/is still free up to 4, near as I can tell, and there's F2P ones since then. You probably are old, but not that old :P
C:\GOG Games\King of Seas\KOS\Plugins\OnlineSubsystemGOG\Source\ThirdParty\GalaxySDK\Libraries\As without deleting that file, the game save/load system will not be working.
apparently tomorrow it should be "Them's Fightin' Herds" that seems to be a vs fighting game with cartoony "my little poney"- type of animals...That's 'cause originally, it was a My Little Pony fangame, but the devs rebranded after they got DMCA'd by Hasbro. The more you know!
So that's why it looked like the pony cartoony thingy, but in the same time going commercial with a fangame without getting in contract with the IP owner is a sure way to get into problemsIf I remember right they got the DMCA before they even thought about going commercial.
Tomorrow apparently it should be a lego game, no idea which one as there's a tons of them.Is Epic dropping some clues on their social sites or how is the next game somewhat-known beforehand? It does not look like the whole list getting to the public from some insider.
Some good offering this week on the epic store, the freebies areIf anyone still doesn't have this game and has even a passing interest in gamified rocket science, make sure you pick this up.
"Kerbal Space Program"

"Kerbal Space Program"
I remember being so frustrated with the base game. That's about my experience with the latest build. Frustration with no promise of things getting better or being worth dedicating the time and effort to learn the game. Big meh.
RetroArch just went up on Steam, apparently. It's a scaffold for emulation - easy to integrate Dolphin or other emulators through it.That... doesn't seem like a solid idea. Emulation has always been a grey area/quasi-legal at best, from what I've read on it. Did something change?
TwinAphex/SquarePusher/Autechre/whatever he calls himself this week is one of the most toxic people ever. He always harasses people, then tries to play the victim. He also treats RetroArch donations as his personal piggy bank.
RetroArch is parasitic. It wouldn't exist without the actual emulators. However, the RetroArch cores often provide a worse experience, giving an unfairly bad impression. They accept a lot of money for poorly repackaging other people's work.
The architecture is terrible. It doesn't actually provide useful abstractions for things you need. A great example is it's input system. Consider how for MAME in RetroArch, you have to map your actual input devices onto "RetroPads" then map that onto system inputs in MAME. It's confusing and limiting. It also doesn't provide things like autofire or input macros in the frontend layer where it belongs, forcing every core to implement it individually.
Consider that the RetroArch people drove Inolen to take ReDream closed source, drove Stenzek to give up on DuckStation, and drove skmp away from emulation. They're actively destroying the community.
RetroArch is not a project you should support.
Hmm. They're probably safe on the emulation front, if they're not offering any ROMs or ISOs of games. Maybe all the more reason to get in now before they get shut down.Specific BIOS can be a copyright issue, too, but if the emulator doesn't lean on those to function (and most don't) they're 100% fine, yeah. It's a little more complicated on the legal front than "avoid illegitimately acquired ROMs/ISOs to be in the clear", but not by much.
I got it a while back, and while I very much enjoyed it at first, it started getting samey and unenjoyable after a bit. YMMV, but it didn't really feel like it evolved at all as the game went on.Echo-ish that, though I think some of the DLC work changes that up a bit? Even base game felt like it was worth... whatever it was I paid for it, years ago, in any case. Deffo worth free.

Note that Sims 4 is permanently free on the EA store (without expansions) but no idea if expansions obtained on the epic store can be used on a game obtained on the EA one
All versions require Origin DRM.
I'm very interested in the upcoming Sims-clones. I'm not a huge Sims fan, but I go on a yearly or bi-yearly dulge into into them, and I was pretty disappointed by 4. Currently I'm only aware of the newly announced Life By You by Paradox Interactive, releasing this autumn I think, and the indie Paralives which still hasn't gone into EA but has seen several years of development. I believe I heard of a third one but I forgot the name and googling gives me nil.
Anyway, I'm hoping the Sims will get some healthy competition in the genre.

There's Tiny Life which is out in early access. Probably worth watching for when it hits 1.0
This week epic freebie "mystery" game is a bit of a let down (for a mystery game i mean) as it's Death Stranding again (confirming what people guessed)They want you to pay $4.99 to get the director's cut (which is the only version worth having from what I hear.)

but sorta decided I have better ways to spend my time then that :P.Me, after the second loss, which was probably to Piglet.

I was introduced to the Japanese version, which may have been the original, but I don't know for certain. But yeah, level 1 challenge is definitely the REAL WAY to play this game, ha. I would have posted a link to the Japanese version, if I had been able to find one hosted anywhere. But seeing as how Flash is no longer supported, you sort of have take what you can find. This was the most readily accessible version I was able to stumble upon.

Has anyone tried it? It looks like it could end up being really good or really bad, depending on how it plays and other game mechanics, story, etc.
More interesting, as it's been a while it is free on steam, Crusaders Kings 2 is free on gog too
https://www.gog.com/game/crusader_kings_ii
(and similarly to steam version, it is permanently free , "free to play" )
That's how they get you - they know that once you've had a taste of CK2, you're going to get either CK3, or start picking up CK2 DLCs.Yeah, or alternatively, they'll pack ads into a game you already bought years ago, transforming your 60 euros purchase into an advertising outlet. That switch to f2p was the moment I decided I would never again give a cent to Paradox.
Can't say anything about Crusader Kings 2 , but i own Stellaris (and never bought any of its DLC) since a bit more than a year and never felt the game was lacking things .
I think I've seen that before, but at the same time never heard of it. Or I've never seen it before but have seen gameplay of it? Somewhere in the middle of that.
I want OutpostHD to be freely available to everybody, so it's open source. The code is available on GitHub under the BSD-3-Clause license.
I also want OutpostHD to have its own new art and audio assets so as not to infringe on the original copyrights and to be able to take advantage of modern graphics hardware and 32bit Color Depths.
Finally, I want OutpostHD to be what Outpost should have been. Outpost was a great idea. Its implementation, however, was terrible. OutpostHD is an attempt at making the game that Outpost could have been.

OutpostHD isn't a clone of OUTPOST but instead a re-implementation of the core mechanics and ideas in a more refined and finished product. See OutpostHD's Wiki article for details.

Jimmy....Prove to me you aren't a bot.It almost feels more like something ChatGPT would spit out. There's no links to weird sites, 'unconventional' games in the list, or a "follow me on YouTube for more recommendations!" - what I'd expect from a spam bot.
The original version of CoQ used to be free from a thread on another forum somewhere... but that over a decade ago.QuoteCaves of QudPretty sure that's not available for free anywhere.

On gog you have a couple of days to can claim as freebie "Hero of the Kingdom 2"
after checking a "gameplay" video, it's all about clicking on npc that ask for items, click on said items somewhere on the screen, click on npc for more dialogue, unfog more part of the screen, click on other npc to get another "find item" , then click on said more items to complete quest, repeat click after click until the end if you have not already ditched the game to go play something more interesting.
Basically it's a point&click but from a higher point of view than usual.
A game about the difficult work of people that manage emergency services. Answer incoming calls and react properly - give first aid instructions, advise, dispatch the correct number of firemen/police/ambulances, or sometimes - just ignore the call. Play on ANY CITY in the world!though the reviews hints that it unfortunately gets very repetitive fast.

Model Builder seems to be a simulator in which you build those plane, helicopter, etc... model kits with plans and then paint them.
Off topic but you reminded me of Airfix Dogfighter (https://youtu.be/vuBLQVUCmEY?si=Gkpi1J1sr3Pd4HpE), where you piloted model planes and fought other model kits inside a house. That also is reminding me of this excellent freebie :

I've been dabbling in pre-release builds of it for a couple of years. It's a good game. Very much influenced by Ultima, and the guy who developed it was one of the co-creators of Fable (not Molyneux!)
I asked him why he decided to release it for free and his answer was basically "because times are tough for a lot of people".
Eat weapons, be scared and question your own mind in this Survival-Horror FPS Prop Hunt Roguelike about meat.
Today's freebie on the epic store is "The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition" (remastered base game+ all the dlc )
edit : today's epic store freebie is "Human Resource Machine" , some kind of puzzle solving 2D game that reminds me a lot of some similar flash gameLess puzzle solving, more programming.

From our point of view, we released the game into EA in Oct '20 and then made a patch/update for it almost every month until March '22. The full release is just a "blip in time" when we think we had delivered what we promised when going into EA. But the reality of it is that we had no income generated from the game at all during that period, but tried to make things work by having part of the team consulting for other companies. As most of the team also have families, this was not something that was sustainable. And this period also excludes the period where we created the prototype for the game, where we again, had no salaries. So all in all, I think that I've worked maybe 3-4 years unpaid on this project?
So while it's easy to say "abandoned after 6 months" - the reality behind it is very much something else.
