English version Is in the making...
What do you mean?
The French were adept of the "Losing is Fun" philosophy long before Dwarf Fortress.Oh man, I lawled.
, I suggest we pull suicide shenanigans to get hero mode for the whole groupAn Hero?
Put my e-mail in too, this looks really nice... I can't really tell from the screen shots but I'm assuming this is tick or turn based (havn't seen anything that declares it's either of those or real-time so... maybe I'm just blind :P )
When the english version is done we totally have to set up a Bay 12 village. Would love to see how our play styles change from the first time we play where we're mostly running around like chickens with our heads cut off picking up anything that isn't glued to the ground to some actually organized dwarvish contraption that repairs barricades and passes out ammo :P
Hero? Is this some premium thing? Please no.
Ouais je connais ce jeu il est bien mais j'ai dû arrêter lol. J'devrais m'y remettre en fait :)

He got too addicted? He'd be dead then =o
This actually sounds quite good. Unless it's using that bowser game 30-minute-tick system.
This looks like a fun way to practice my french, I might join next week. This weekend I'm going camping though.I think the beta or whatever is going to be in English, considering the trailer is in English as well.
Erm, I'm a bit worried about signing up if it's just going to not allow me to use this nameWut steam group chat?
So, should I enter some sort of invitation key?
Also, I'm in steam group chat, join up.. I think?
Wut steam group chat?
Works now.
I put in the email I put in for the beta thing. Did you sign up for the beta with your email? Have you tried leaving invitation blank?
So, I thought there wasn't a signup at all, that wheny opu entered your e-mail they would tell you that the game's starting.
So, the notification is also a sign-up?
I'm really sorry you didn't enter your email over the two weeks or so this thread's been up. My bad. :l
In game as 'DenziTansrin' right now, anyone see me on their town list? Should be able to check by going to citizens in the left side. I think I see Cheese in here, Cheese7?That's me. I'm not playing for today, internet's buggered.
I'm in Denzi's town. I believe he has indeed been banned, all of his messages have been edited out and threads locked.
So basically, they are going on a banning spree already. That is really nice to know.

Get ready!
Now a question: how do you give items? I know you can secretly put them into someone's house when he's away, but how do you do it openly? Is there a trade system of some sort?
Alright I'm in game, anyone in 'The Hills of the South'? I don't see anyone familiar in the list, so I'm guessing I'm in the second town or so that is in there... Well, time to pick up from where I left off! :P
The Hot Laziness:Okay, I pulled that number out of nowhere based on where we were, early in the game-morning. I had no idea you were advancing so quickly! Very nice, guys.
I don't know where did you get that 12 number? Our town defense is 21 now (but we have two defence items in the bank, so someone may chicken out and steal them for their home). Also we have an admin who has +2 defense to his home and someone who has wasted a plank and got 3 defense shack.
Oh...And for you beta key people: When I signed up, I just...signed up. No special key, no referral, just name email password done and it worked.
My wife wants to play too now btw, do you know if they allow family members to play from one computer?I think I saw something about that in the FAQ, and I recall it being positive; general procedure in this case is to drop a message to an admin as a courtesy heads-up though.
Yea... I'm still deleted.. :'( You lucky sod.Oh...And for you beta key people: When I signed up, I just...signed up. No special key, no referral, just name email password done and it worked.
That's what we did yesterday.
Those accounts got deleted.
Yea... I'm still deleted.. :'( You lucky sod.
Hordes of zombies are attacking your town ! They are everywhere, you hear citizens screaming in the night, the attackers clashing noisily against sheet metal... Hungry groaning from the starving masses... What's going to become of it ?!
Are you going to die2nite?!
Yeah, my personal at-work policy is a very strict "no games, no webcomics, keep images disabled when on forums".
If I die, Deon, I bequeath to you my furniture kit. I forget if it's in my possession or my bedroll... Couldn't set it up with no tent.
Anyone have a beta invite to share?Beta invitation key is sent you by admins.
QuoteAnyone have a beta invite to share?Beta invitation key is sent you by admins.
Deon, if you go to my house there is a button called. Discreetly Donate an item. No, as Sowelu said you can attach an item to a message.
I am guessing this is how you put items from your inv to someones storage...
You had to sign up earlier.. I don't know, try to main them?QuoteAnyone have a beta invite to share?Beta invitation key is sent you by admins.
Hmm. Soooo...how do you get them to send you one? I don't see a sign-up option on the website.
Apparently I died without dieingDo you mean the combat log? It's a translation problem, it just means that you failed a combat round.
What do they do--is it another +6 AP? What else gives +AP? Aaand...for that matter, how easy is it to pillage that kind of stuff?1) The manual says that the addiction kicks in if you eat more than one per day.
When I pawed through the manual I couldn't find any information about camping out in the field...What are the rules for that, how do you do it, and how safe is it?I am pretty sure it means a death unless you're a scout.
You get 6 ap only during the night attack.Like I said, I took water and thought I found food... It wasn't food...
Didn't you take any water/food with you? How could you :o.
Yeah, the game's pretty brutal if you let it be. Particularly I see almost no one bothering to spend the 2 AP to upgrade their place to a tent, then when any zombie gets in they die. Leaving the gate open is pretty bad too, though if you think about it.... with some careful preparation you could open the gate right before midnight on purpose and kill off a lot of the competition for last one alive. Then again that's assuming you think 'winning' is 'last one alive' :PThis does not work! Zombies are randomly distributed between people, so any number can go after you as well.
They didn't change the attack time though.
For those that missed out on a beta key, their twitter says to e-mail them at contact@die2nite.com
... Which is mysteriously missing from their main website.
I just sent them an E-mail, though I wasn't sure what to say, so hopefully they'll let me into the beta =) I'll post/edit when they reply.
They didn't change the attack time though.
The game time is Paris time which is GMT+1, so it's London+1. I hope you won't misunderstand it. because it's the one of the most important things about this game.
not only is it weird, but it's counter-intuitive to say 'Oh hey, the zombies attack at midnight' and give the players an in-game 24-hour clock, and then say in another place 'oh hay, the zombies are attacking at 22 GMT, and the servers run at +1 GMT'Manual has some wrong stuff. Always check the "Gazette", it has the latest info.
Something tells me the zombies are supposed to attack at 23 GMT, which would put them in line with midnight server time (which would put the times in line with what everything else in the game says)
Edit: Source for when zombies are supposed to attack from the play guide
Open the guide, go to the section titled 'The Attack of the Hordes'
First paragraph below
Every night, at midnight, the hordes of living dead attack the town. Each attack consists of a certain number of zombies.
So when do you get AP back? Also, I got wounded which sucks. -1 ap per day.
Kinda pointless to have a guide with wrong information though, isn't it?I personally closed the door 20 minutes before the attack yesterday, so I am 100% sure it happens 22:00 GMT and 23:00 game time.
Either way, I'm going to watch the clock and see when the attack happens. Something about the reported information is wrong.
I just emailed the Die2nite guys now asking for an invitation so hopefully I'll be able to play this soon, until then I'm reading the help section on the site and the rest of this thread

hahaha, wow. My town is full of selfish people (every plank of wood we have has gone to houses instead of construction projects) so we have a grand total of a 19 defense. I fully expect my own death tonight (even though I have 5 defense... saw everyone else taking planks out for personal use so I Grabbed one myself, no sense in letting everyone else get the nice houses, right?)
I guess you're in one town with my wife, her character name is Parayah.hahaha, wow. We had a lot of this until I started threatening to hand out banishments (I'm pretty much the mayor of my town in all but name)
Unfortunately, the armor plating didn't get done, but we've still got 33 defense.
so.. is the game still in french?
I guess you're in one town with my wife, her character name is Parayah.
Yep, nobody inside will die tonight.
Hopefully.
Please tell me we got our gate closed. It was locked by Hugehead. Just in time.
(closed == locked near the attack: your upgrades keep it from being opened within a certain time before the attack)
Anyone have an invitation key to throw my way? I normally don't like zombie anything but this looks cool.Check the last 2 pages, there's a mail, you can mail administrators and ask for a key.
the town is frozen when it gets too few citizens
Attack has ended- results in a moment.
ED: No zombies got in!
The five people locked outside got eaten, however.

Geez. Well, natural selection I guess. I'm glad that those of us inside survived just fine!
Ah, no Hail, sorry I thought you were here in The Hot Laziness.Seven.
Yay Deon! Good to hear. How many did we lose outside?
Why do you solo so much? Why do you even fight zombies? It's a bad idea to fight them.
Just ask other people to help you by radio. If you have enough people in one zone you can safely explore it.
You have 23 hours till the next attack, so do not rush.
The problem I see with towns that you need 100 points to get into is that they will take a long time to fill up, much longer than the noob towns.
Hugehead, why do you wander inside of zombie hordes?I forgot I was terrified and then told you I was going one west to loot, thought you went ahead of me.
Then what's the point of it? You'll still have people who sleep in the desert the first night that way as well. The problem I see with towns that you need 100 points to get into is that they will take a long time to fill up, much longer than the noob towns.
I'm guessing that it won't be a strict thing. Like, after the first day, it'll be open to everyone.
Noooo, I walked into a zone with 3 zombies on my first step T_TThats why you check the map. Go with someone else or just carry something heavy... Or something with alot of teeth, spins them at over 100mile/min and goes Vrroom Vrroom, NNNGGEHHHHHHHHHAAAAAA!!!!!
Fuck, I really want to play this game now.
Sounds like a really nice game but it seems that a invitation code is required or a sponsor from someone already in.Read the last three pages
Does anyone know how to get this invitation code?
Ok, went out exploring (carefully) and I now have: Another rucksack, a plastic bag (makes a weapon with water?), a Toolbox, a mouldy ham sandwich, and a box of matches. No idea how useful most of that is. But I'll probably stick the toolbox, at least, in the Bank.
Alrighty, I've been too busy to join so far but today I need to blow off some steam so I just registered as Androgen, new resident of the Boiling Highlands. Time to figure out how to play this game now...
Oh this is exciting, we have 6 B12ers in Boiling Highlands now I think. Oh Sappho, if you go exploring there's a house 1 square west of town that should be relatively safe to explore (there are 3 zombies, but 2 people sitting there, so they won't bug you). You might get some neat things from a house... I don't really know.
Oh hey, I saw him say he was going to do that in the Banishment world forums thread. I guess it didn't work out :-\
Right, I'm in game with Cernunnos, in Desert of the Headless, anyone else there?
It's been nice knowing you all; the Hot Laziness probably won't crumble tonight, but I'm sure it will go into chaos and then fall tomorrow.Yeah, my wife's town meets a 100ish attack this night... Probably devs want to test how to balance attacks :D.

It's 23:00 on the game clock.
It's 23:00 on the game clock.
Hmm. But the game clock says it's about 20:40 right now. Which would give us just over 2 hours. But the Gazette post about the zombie attack times says 14:00 Pacific time, which is just over an hour from now.
So, which is it?
I need to get out of the desert guys, come help me please! :'(Me too D:

Trust me. We went through a LOT of confusion and time-zone shenanigans yesterday over this.
@ninja: the latter
Alright I got my beta key, and I'm in The Boiling Highlands with all the other Bay12'ers that joined today :D
Do we have enough people yet for a zombie attack?
Hugehead, hall your ass in there. NOSZII came after you.
She is sleeping but I can use her Laptop :).
Oh, it takes one battery I believe.
What happens if you get a pump and you can get two water rations? Does only one give you AP?From what I understand you can only get AP from water once a day
The pump sounds awesome for those times people die. You can just get people to spend their second water ration on the dead bodies and not waste AP dragging them outside.
Edit: H...w....what? The day 3 wave was 128 zombies !? Holy crap, the whole town died right then and there... Wow, I mean... wow..
I'm in 'Peak of the Crazed' now
I'm in Desert of Headless.
Nick is the same as on the forum.

Oh that's you? I'm trapped west of town, if you wish to help... again... sigh... =/ we need that watchtower.
I kinda wanna explore into the square north of me though...
There's three, Deon, and there's no watchtower because some asshole stole the planks so he could build his hut. That's what booting people out of town is for. Zero tolerance.
I will bail you out. But it's not smart to explore terrain if you don't know what's there. Better just go scavenging someplace save.
So, if you want to auto-search, do you have to remain in a sector during your initial search of it? The timer never started when I tried to re-enter and stay for the night.
This is starting to interest me, but I can't find a LP or even any pictures. Can anyone point me in the right direction? It's very new, like, four days old.
Hey Deon, the other day I posted something in the Forums, its called Scavangers, Builders and Saviors.
Can you copy paste it here for me please???
I am thinking we should organize ourselves into groups. Each day I will post a Listing on the Board, this listing will be much like this, Sign on as one of the below Groups then get to work, try not to pile too much into one place but don't worry the next day if you are still here you can sign on as something else...
One group will be the Scavangers who go out with the main purpose of collecting goods, they are best to be able to go out after the attack. They will need to either work together in an expidition or with a hefty weapon... \\Hoists his Chainsaw\\
They will collect the goods and get back to Town within their AP limit, Food and Water mainly but if already hooked Drugs and Booze too, but know that Booze reduces your search results...
The Second group are the Builders of the Town, they are the ones that go to the Well, get their ration then put it into the Bank. Then using their AP to build any construction that needs building, when we get the Workshop up and running, they will also be the ones that work there. They are for those that just want to experiance the game or are not going to be on for long each day...
The Final Group are the Saviors. They are the ones that come on before the attacks and try and give those stuck outside something to get them back. We have an item which gives a shock that restores AP for a wound point, if they get lost outside, they deserve it. These Saviors will only respond to you if you are within 6 Tiles of the town, meaning they only need to Drink once to get back to town. If you are outside that 6 Tiles, my the lord have mercy on your souls and may you forgive us when we destroy your bodies on our walls...
Including resetting AP and status? That sucks. That means until the town is full we only get one day of playtime each?
There are 40 citizens listed, 0 dead.

yeah it was an admin message from 'The Crow', it wasn't even a message on my door it was this big purple pop-up that I couldn't reply to.
yeah it was an admin message from 'The Crow', it wasn't even a message on my door it was this big purple pop-up that I couldn't reply to.Yea, I think they are too used to their playerbase being run of the mill loners/sheep who don't read the guides, don't read the forums, and don't learn from the mistakes/triumphs of others...
Get with a few B12yers, spread out the 'commands'... keep your own profile low that way.
Well I'm trapped outside terrified. Time to die. Tonight that is.
Repeating my previous question, how do you even get an invitation code.
This worked for me.Repeating my previous question, how do you even get an invitation code.
Some places are having give-aways. You can also try contacting the devs and asking them. That's how a bunch of us did it. contact@die2nite.com
We just closed our gates and we all decided to use the day 1 theft usage to steal whatever we could from the people who were going to die so we could toss it into the bank. I just found out though that there is a (slight?) chance that when you steal something, no one will notice. I didn't even use one of those incense candle things either, just stole a box of matches and it said no one noticed. What town are you in again? You said that your a hero, what you pick, have you started a Collation yet???

I said I could of been a hero if I had lived one more day Nevyn. Died at the start of day 4 with the rest of the town but managed to get last man standing somehow (Even though there were like... 18 of us alive at the end)We just closed our gates and we all decided to use the day 1 theft usage to steal whatever we could from the people who were going to die so we could toss it into the bank. what exactly did you tell them?
Gangs of dogs (2)In my defense, it was never closed to begin with. :'(
Nobody lifted a finger to help the 10 citizens that were blocked outside last night. I hope you can sleep at night with their deaths on your conscience.
Furthermore, last night, some citizens report having seen ZangiHaisha opening the gates just before the attack. There are also some who say that it wasn't entirely accidental... Result: 11 deaths.
- The Crow
Deaths in town (11) :
BReady, Brojato, cheroki, hitman718, inboxer, khai, marz25, Mick, milk, Mnemo, Renullius
Other Victims (10) :
Alatriste, Blackcorp, bradleycold, dnsshn, farga, lasthope, mcgiwer, PeteyKable, Razorsrolla163, Stralix
And so, The Hot Laziness was no more, just a site for other towns to explore before their time is up as well...DAMN! I was too dragged in SpaceStation13: I forgot to come back :DDDD. OMG.
I love this game. How do you pay for the hero thing again?During beta: you don't. There's no payment option.
Q.QI love this game. How do you pay for the hero thing again?During beta: you don't. There's no payment option.
Yeah I contacted staff via email and they said there's no payment until the game becomes out of beta.Q.QI love this game. How do you pay for the hero thing again?During beta: you don't. There's no payment option.
so its free to be a hero right now? or not implemented...if its free how do we do it?
Oh you didn't get last man, you got the Last Line.... Last man means being the very last person alive when you wake in the morning....
How do you commit suicide IG? I kinda fucked myself over.Step out of the gates and wait for nightfall. Make sure autosearch is on, to help out your poor doomed buddies.
Why were the developers mad at you Denzi? I don't understand what kind of advantage you could get from playing the french or german versions.
It is kind of bothering me that, at least in our town, there are a couple of people on the forums constantly going "well in the French version we did it this way and anyone who deviates from that behavior is to be hated and shunned forever." I get that people who have played before have found the most efficient ways to survive, but having someone tell me "you should use this many AP doing this, restore with this, do this, then come home, and if you do it any differently you're a wasteful selfish piece of garbage" just sucks all the fun straight out of the game. I enjoy the part of a new game where you figure things out, make mistakes, laugh about them, and then tell stories with your friends about the stupid things you did. It's especially great if everyone in the game is in that same boat and you all stumble around together, getting eaten by zombies a few times before you find a better way to do things. If someone's telling me exactly what to do, I don't feel like I'm playing a game at all. More like I'm doing a job that I'm not even getting paid for. These are the type of people that make games like this suck. Its fun to lose. In that respect, noobs are fun to play with.
So if the developers are telling people not to instantly become dictators, posting lists of rules copied from the French version and demanding that anyone who breaks them be banished immediately, that's fine with me. However, I don't see anything wrong with *having* knowledge obtained by research and using it to try to help everyone. If they're threatening you, Denzi, I hope they're at least threatening the people in my town who seem to think our first shot at the game ought to last weeks before being overrun and sees everyone who's trying different things or making newbie mistakes as THE ENEMY.
Looks like I'm late to the party.
Is it still possible to get a key?
"Feel free to go scavenging on the net to try and find one ;)" isn't very encouraging. :(
Email them, worked for me
After the nightly attack there'll be meaty bones lying around the waste. That's human meat and if you eat it you'll be a cannibal. You have a chance of getting infections. I did not know what these meaty bones were....
Cernunnos- Rook42 in honorable counties.Wassssuuuuuppppp?!?
How do you guys find anything out in the desert? I've been auto searching this undepleted zone all night and I've found absolutely nothing so far... =/I've found stuff in my zone in every auto-search. It's random, but who knows? Also, what's a Coalition do, and should we (Or have we already) here at B12 start one?
That's 5 auto searches plus the regular search where nothing turned up...
Honestly wish it was less 'only five players, but they all join the same town' and more 'as many players as you want, but only five join a single town'. Mostly because the second option would let all of Bay12 join towns together :P
Coalitions are groups of 5 players who (I believe) get their own forum separate from the town/global forums. When one person from a coalition joins a town, all other coalition players join the same town.Well, shucks. What fun is that?

Also, requires a hero to make a Coalition I believe.
Well it does let friends play together. But I really don't see a group of five people being able to stick together very well. It is more likely if they all got into the same town, one or two of them will die off first and join a new town. When the remaining 3 die they join a different town, and eventually they all just get dispersed unless they purposefully try to stick together.Pretty much. I think redesigning it to the way we would like it would make for a more enjoyable play experience.

I took some drugs to make it out into the desert, but no one is marking the map as they go! I went to two areas to pick up some stuff, and they were already taken. Come on!
Damn, I went to sleep too late and woke up a bit past the attack time and now I'm dead. Did the Colosseums of Armageddon even have 40 citizens?
Ah well, this game was pretty unique. Don't think I'll be playing it again though.
You should have seen my last post on the town forums of the structure of fear, it was in a thread for posting requiems for the town...We lost 11 people on the first attack. 11. 11! 9 people were outside the city and 2 people died when our wall didn't hold up. We suck.
...status effects make things interesting
(we were about to be hit by between 135-180 zombies with 77 defense also there was only twelve of us)

Hmm... wounded already. You got stuck with zombies and tried to run didn't you?
Eh.
And why 2300? You mean server time or what?Yea server time. 2300 is when the attack comes.
there i finished the pump now i dont want any more complaints about selfish play
I will be taking the long walk tonight... Who will join me...I will walk to cure zombies.
"Together in their different towns, dwarves all over the world responded to Armok's call, they left the safety of their homes and walked into the desert, the zombies did not bother them nor did they stop them as night fell. They grew never weary and walked for time on end. Blessed be those that walk to the Song of Armok..."

You got stuck with zombies and tried to run didn't you?Yeah. In addition to the overworld screen being confusing (why isn't the map expanded by default? Why doesn't the map tell you when you're about to walk into a zombie filled square?) the actual zombie attack screen is odd.
You will see yellow/red squares if its already explored and they have zeds in them. You got stuck with zombies and tried to run didn't you?Yeah. The important part isn't when you die, it is when you click "reincarnate". Make sure you guys do THAT at the same time. I may or may not join you guys. My town has a couple of really whiny leaders, but I think I will tough it out.

You'd think they'd bring it down during the zombie attacks...They do
So... if you're part of a coalition, can you not join another town until everyone in the coalition is dead? Or does it pull the other people out of town or something. I don't see how it would work unless everyone has the decency to die in unison.I don't think any of us know yet.
my town is the junction of aching stomaches... must've ate some bad mexican :PI am with you, I shall guide you...

ANYWAY.. head injuries are damn hilarious.... nnrg... "s..s..so b..be care ou..out th..th..there!..argg.."
He said he did. D:Just completely, Hovels before Workshops are a waste of Needed materials...
\\ Oh, okay. I guess he's not entirely useless. :3
Please build your Tent but not the Hovel. Also please frequently use the forums to keep up with what is happening in the Town.
As you can see in the first link, the Workshop (Which costs 10 Planks) allows us to turn Logs into Planks, this is an important ability due to the common fact that 90% of towns have piles of rotten logs when they die. Remember this for the next town you live in, and stall building the Hovel, as even then, the need of it is Minor...
What it lets you do...

Also, I'm now infected and terrorized.
Nice. People in my town built a pump. Without asking. Because they're smart. Also, I'm now infected and terrorized.
How do you remove those statuses? and is infected lethal after a certain amount of time?
I'm currently auto-searching for stuff only found one plank so far though do we still need four for our workshop?
Nice. People in my town built a pump. Without asking. Because they're smart.
The initial pump sucks...I'm not in Town now, but next time I am, sure. I think it's posted somewhere here, too. With the Workshop.
Hey Webadict, can you screenshot the build branch that the pump unlocks for me please???
Wow, is it just me or is this town full of inactives, and does it look like the Wrought Iron (the newly named version of building iron) harder to come by now. We are nearly at 10 Planks but still need around 5 more wrought iron to build the workshop, 7 if the Lock gets built first...
I guess the game is fairly new and everyone doesn't really have any idea what to do. I'm hoping my next town won't lose 14 people on the first night.
Estimation: 100 ~ 120 zombiesThis is why die2nite is so great.
Defense: 46
We're ****ed.
I think before the attack, I'm gonna steal all the defensive items for myself. >:3
I'd be shocked if we survive the night, we are looking at at least 36 zombies, probably closer to 50, breaking in :/Really? Mine says up to 80.

We're utterly screwed. And we have LESS planks than yesterday, damnit.
i knew i shoulda gotten up an closed it XDHahah noobs mistake... Alot of Noobs in this town...
thought it could wait
well, hope i dont die, then again learned my lesson, AND if i do live, ill probably be hung by survivors
FFFFFFFUUUUUU-Shoulda just died. My next Town will be glorious.
i live on! 28 zombies ate.. .. 12? people
If you're in Heartless foothill of crows [Better known as Tazville], lemme know.Lol.
Just wanna know who from here is in my town. :D
I don't think I am, Shades, since you were at the end of one and I'm at the start of a new one. Can't see anyone I recognise here.
I like to play out the egotistical narcissist thing, but some people get really upset over it.Lol. Did you see the thread you made?
Still, I'm not about to explain myself either, as it takes out all the fun. I'm only doing it 'cause I've got 2 friends who know me well in this town. :3
nearly all, unless 2 irons were dropped off moments ago...No, not yet. But, it's close enough. Seriously, has any other town rocked so hard?
I hate you guys. Seriously. 4 days, me and some other guys have been harping about getting unshaped concrete blocks constantly. We still have yet to find any. I think we've given up on that, we had to spend a lot of resources on other defenses. We will survive day 5 and get to 6 at least.nearly all, unless 2 irons were dropped off moments ago...No, not yet. But, it's close enough. Seriously, has any other town rocked so hard?
I turned the conversation into an image, but it's too long to be adequate for a photo uploader. Ideas?Photobucket? Multiple Pics?
It's 3 hours into our town. Guess who has the materials to build a Workshop?*builds a pump*
Nice. I'm hoping we last until Day 7. We will be everyone's envy. We're rocking.I hate you guys. Frightful store of temptation is the town.
I'm sure if anyone did this, they would automatically, and I do mean automatically, be killed. So very much. It's 3 hours into our town. Guess who has the materials to build a Workshop?*builds a pump*
Sure would be nice if you could plunder a building for AP to get some materials back. Tear a guy's shack apart, then build a gallows with it.
Edit: Started in hideaway of hell. Charming.
Yay I is saved, now if only people would come and clear out this zone so we can start exploring it, last place I was at had that speical pump which gave out Jerry cans to everyone that used it...
There are locations called Unsearchable zones or something like that, you need to put alot of AP into clearing them but when they are cleared you can explore them, the one I found two towns ago was called something like Hydroloic Pump station or so...Yay I is saved, now if only people would come and clear out this zone so we can start exploring it, last place I was at had that speical pump which gave out Jerry cans to everyone that used it...
Woah, that would be super useful. What was the zone called? Unsearchable?
I'm interested in playing this. Anyone got an invite key?Sent

Y'know, I'm probably gonna keep playing this game at least until I get the "100 soulpoints" thing. Having enough to be in a town of the competant sounds awesome.
No good having an invincible shack if you're hanging from the end of a noose.Y'know, I'm probably gonna keep playing this game at least until I get the "100 soulpoints" thing. Having enough to be in a town of the competant sounds awesome.
Of course the people with all the soul points might have been because they took all the towns resources and built an invincible shack to hide in.
No good having an invincible shack if you're hanging from the end of a noose.
Let's rock.No good having an invincible shack if you're hanging from the end of a noose.
Best thing to do with players like that, but they seem to get away with it reading the forums. My current town seems good though, just a few new players making minor mistakes but at least they are reading the forums. And it looks like we have both the workshop (built) and the watchtower (ready to build) by the end of day one :)
There's a zone just to the south of me that has "isolated zombies." If I go there how many zombies are there likely to be? If there's one, can I still search? If two, am I screwed unless someone comes to get me?
Here's the key: Join a town right after your death at 2320. It should be full of people that aren't terrible.100% agreed. Thats when all the active/useful players get it on. And thats why my town is doing as good as it is. It would probably have fallen apart much earlier if not for that fact.
The people in Foothill of Crows are rather stupid, to be honest. The only ones that don't freak out are B12 members.
So I just made a coalition.I'd join, it would have to be tomorrow, I'm not dead yet.
Need to invite 4 people to it.
Maybe we can get it to work or something?
Also the end of day 6 gave us around 300 zombies.
The people in Foothill of Crows are rather stupid, to be honest. The only ones that don't freak out are B12 members.
Canyon of Cyclops (2)
We bid a fond farewell to Click, the old dog that lived in the village... Click's incessant barking which annoyed everyone in the neighbourhood stopped for good as of last night's attack. Poor thing... The good news is that there was no loss of human life in the town to speak of.
Listen to this, it seems *blah* decided to dump all their random findings in our bank. It's quality we need here, not quantity, *blah*...
Other Victims (11) :
aguilanegra, Chackal, Darkender, Dickies, gamefreak, Jada, MMyers, NickieRammie, Sodomist, Sturon, Zook13
I don't know if the coalition will exist further or if I can invite more people into it when my hero ends tomorrow.I think you can only make it today, but once you're in it, you're in it. I think.
The people in Foothill of Crows are rather stupid, to be honest. The only ones that don't freak out are B12 members.Err... You walked into a bunch of zombies 5 squares away. By yourself. We had two separate threads about it the day before.
5 projects in our first day.If we make it through tonight, we will rock. I think tonight we're getting hit extra hard. Unluck of the draw?
That is retardedly awesome.
Also the end of day 6 gave us around 300 zombies.
So I just made a coalition.
So I just made a coalition.
I'm happy to join a bay12 coalition but I'm unlikely to die for two days so there might be others who could join you sooner.
Looks like someone didn't come save me. You know who you are, when you said you would and did not.
I said I needed to be picked up in the next 3-5 hours...Looks like someone didn't come save me. You know who you are, when you said you would and did not.
Ace0 was there for hours waiting for you to escape with him
Just had someone attempt to banish me for stealing medicine from their chest, to make paracllieum to cure my infection.....Well, there's no real excuse for hoarding medicine anyway. The only things that really should be in houses are decorations (who cares?), possibly food and water (again, not so important) and dangerous items (keeping stuff like Pine Fresh under lock means noone can use it unexpectedly).
Well the clock was ticking, 5mins before gates were closed and you STILL hadn't logged on...I said I needed to be picked up in the next 3-5 hours...Looks like someone didn't come save me. You know who you are, when you said you would and did not.

I stated that I HAD to be picked up in the next 3-5 hours and no one came and got me. I did not say I would be able to logon tomorrow, and I implied quite the opposite.Well the clock was ticking, 5mins before gates were closed and you STILL hadn't logged on...I said I needed to be picked up in the next 3-5 hours...Looks like someone didn't come save me. Oh god no, not this again. Lets please forget this and leave the drama for you ma- no, for your incinerator.Where'd you get incinerator from, anyway?
also guys! i have two invitation keys i need to get rid of@
funny pun, leafsnailThat was... actually completely unintentional :/.
Does anyone have any spare beta keys? I've been reading this thread but I had midterms, now that I'm done, I'd like to join.Sent... But really look though the last few pages, people have said if you contact them via PM they will hand over one...
Thank you for the serial Neyvn, I saw the offers on the page before but I did not want to PM a bunch of people and bother them in the case that they were out, so sorry about that.Still got 3.
Can i get one too? I'm real good at getting eaten by zombies :PWell, I need to get rid of two so.. Here, merry early christmas.
Hey Taz, how has your place been doing? 'The Screaming Barracks' here is doing pretty well, after weathering the last attack without anyone inside the city dieing (an attack of 227 zombies)
Oh wait looking back I somehow got confused when you said that you are there also, I thought you meant there as in the screaming barracks, not there as in tazville lol
Anyone else from bay 12 at the Barbaric ring of crime?
Can i have a past key for the die2nite ? :Psent

Hey, i'm with you :) (in the same square, actually xD)
Hum I've got a freind who wants to play this, any keys left.Check your SOUL screen... You will have 3 yourself...
Also anyone in the burning winds?
Man, to hell with all the people signing up literally to ask for a key. I actually come here!
I sent you one I found on the forum there. Did it work?
Game sounds crazy! :)
Let me in! Check your souls tab and message me one of your keys!
How long do the zombies rampage?
Congratulations, you are DEAD ! Generalised infection

I have two keys if noone else has messaged you two then I can send them over.
My town's descended into chaos. The end is soon for sure.
I have made it to day 4 though, so I'm happy.
I have three keys for people.
:( nooooooooQuoteCongratulations, you are DEAD ! Generalised infection
Also scarily...QuoteMessages + 238
Well, things are looking pretty ugly at the moment. There's atleast 4 zombies in every single square around our village. Some tiles even have 8 zombies on them.Just travel in groups of 4, then.
There's 380-470 zombies that're going to give us a visit the coming night..yikes :P
No no, I don't know how to get activation keys from the game, pm-ing is the easiest part.Oh, lol, it seemed a bit too simple to send a PM.
Hmmm, website still says they give three keys to everyone on joining, but maybe they got too many users and suspended it? Hope not!I just joined and I don't believe I got any keys. I think you gain them as you gain soul points or something.
guess who's town has a hacksaw on day 5? with all the DP for the day already covered? My town actually found the hacksaw on day 2. Might explain how we've lasted until day 6 and there's no chance of any losses tonight.
The blog here: http://zombie-night.blogspot.com/ has a list of keys every once in the while and the current list had atleast one still valid key before I took it so there may be more.
I probably have some keys, but I'm in a tight spot. See, I'm dead, so I can't get at any potential keys unless I respawn. But I don't actually want to *play* anymore, and respawning would stick some poor village with a useless body...Do it anyways, game is in the middle of a newbie frenzy anyways from all the beta keys being given out.

Actually I'm in the same situation and you can log in and check your soul/keys without having to join a new town.
if you joined after the send in the calvary update, you don't get keys.I joined...either late October or early November; I was in The Hot Laziness, one of B12's first towns.

I still can't get over what happened to us at CoA. Day 6, and we suddenly have a 400 zombie swarm? What did you have before that? 400 for day 6 doesn't really sound that bad. The Plaines of Madness are looking at between 50 and 70, so probably like 60, on day two, it wouldn't even have to be ten times as much to have 400.
:(
Unfortunately coalitions can only have 5 people in them. I think so far we've only had one hero and their coalition filled pretty much immediately. Apparently though, you don't need to stay a hero to keep the coalition, just be one to make it initially.

From what I've been told so far, no, but you can never know for sure.
From what I've been told so far, no, but you can never know for sure.
I've not see the estimated number change, and so far my attacks have always been in this range even after killing a whole load of zombies.
The best test would be to get an accurate estimate and kill more than the difference between max and min. If you don't get less than min then it's not having a (1 to 1) effect.
I have gotten 3 additional keys.
First come first serve.
Now only 1 left.
My town is so full of fail. Hopefully tonight enough zombies will get through to kill everyone but me.Thats the spirit!

Well that's just great.
Town is really coming together, preparing to close the gate and such.
Unfortunately, someone told me the gate need to be closed around 2340 or such, but at 2300 the zombies attack... ::)
Don't worry, you are new. (Basically same thing happened to me and my first town...)Well that's just great.

You've doomed your town.
23:20 is when it gets back...
Fikes and I survived! 6 survivors. Day 5, going to 6 tonight.
oh bull, are you seriously at day 9? You must have 500+ zombies!
That's correct, I just noticed that!
Also, I found a meaty bone somewhere in the desert just on the ground so I ate it. Now I'm infected. :'( Is all hope lost?
Its annoying when people think they are helping by killing themselves.
"I'm gonna die!" *Takes long walk in desert.*
Well, I'm probably going to die tonight. 1/6 chance of hero. Maybe the lot of us could try to join a town at the same time?I'd be up for trying to join with you guys, as I'm dying tonight almost certainly. Why is 23:20 the best?
I'd normally peg 23:20 as the 'best' though... most dedicated/useful players get into town a town then.

My current town is actually pretty awesome. Thanks to communication, the stupid people damage was minimized and stuff actually got done, even if we've had lots of really tense moments. When I say my town is retarded... we lost 18 people night 1 because they forgot to come inside.
What killed us was inactives and stupid people getting trapped outside, really.

Ah okay, well should we all just post back here at around 23:20? Then we can join a town that's near the zero players mark?I'm game. I should die during tonight's zombie attack anyway.
At the end of today's day I'll invite you.Alright. My name in d2n is the same as here
Leafsnail what town are you in? Your town always seems to have the exact same things going on as in my town, except your town is a day ahead of ours. The Canyon of Cyclops. Might just be you started a day later :P.
Is it bad to hope that the 2 dead bodies still in our town go and eat the 2 players with 12 house defense... ?
how long does the attack calculation downtime last? From 2300 to 2320, usually.
Curse you Shades, thanks to your signature I now have 4 tvtropes tabs waiting to be read
I wonder if they'd ever consider making towns linked to different time-zones. Like, even just four broad areas, but enough that everyone can join a town where midnight is convenient in their location. This will cause much confusion and tears. I disagree with the very idea.
Ok I'm in the Misty Refuge now, I hope some of you guys wound up hereHere too.
Actually from experience... I'm pretty sure a dead body left inside town can 1-hit kill anyone on random... I forgot to check the gazette... sadly...Is it bad to hope that the 2 dead bodies still in our town go and eat the 2 players with 12 house defense... ?
No cause they are clearly evil people. But that won't happen as you'd need 13 dead to breach each house.
Oh god, so many people getting stuck...Its a frenzy... I'm gonna keep my AP for now and see what will be done after that dies down.
Aww, wish I was joining with you guys. :P:P
Alas, my time is still limping along. Good luck!
Also, Zangi, I appreciate your Chrono Trigger sig. :P
Some froob is 14 AP away.
Sad neither of us got hero. Oh well. A cooool 15 spirit points for that failure of a town. I wonder what the next one will bring...
So, how do I use this cyanide to poison people? Not that I plan on it or anything, but in case of an emergency...You can use it on yourself... (I've a personal policy of keeping it in my own house....)

Haha, I guess that's a positive way to look at the situation GlyphGryph, I guess I'm just pessimistic. That'd be awesome if this could be converted into a single player game, where the player can direct the actions of all 40 citizens. I'd like to see how far I can go if it was all under my control.Isn't that DF?

Which is the immediately gripping thing about Die2Nite. You can die. The whole town can die. The whole town will die. Not unlike Dwarf Fortress, your situation in Die2Night could be compared to a cardboard box with increasingly fat men coming along and sitting on it. Your world will crumple, and the game’s in preventing that for as long as possible. Except in Die2Night you’re not controlling Dwarf Fortress’s omniscient overseer, you’re controlling a dwarf, so to speak.
That's the town I'm in. The Mcat guy is just trying to organize people and help them out, and the rules he posted is pretty much common sense. Plus, he can't banish you, it takes 10 people to do it. What's your name in game?
See most good players know those two rules and live by them, but we also live so long that we never end up in the same towns, so you end up with a bunch of noobs who have died on day 1 4 times in a row, and spasm at the rules.Yea, being ordered around by a stranger can get to ya.
I actually wouldn't mind another town full of new players. I also plan on making an immediate "newbie guide" post in the forums and hoping I can save a few lives that way, but I guess I'm a masochist because this has been hella fun so far even its like herding cats.
Did everyone get it? Because I've just got it too o_O.
We got the garden? cool :) my failure to think didn't screw the town
I have a key up for grabs:

Yep, the beta pills really helped out the builders! Plus I was lucky and found a phrama bottle. Really good starting town.
The Beta pills give 30AP? Is this really true or are you guys trying to screw with people lol
Oh that was you, you found the pipe for the mega pump too right (not that we have that yet).. and the bandages.
Good work :)
I think you should stay on scavenger duty, clearly your doing it right.

6 in my town died.
I was one of them.
Another one's reason for death is "Murder (Poison)"...what?
Yup, that's me.
I did way better in the last town, but I seem to have been struck with stupidity.
I'm almost certainly dead now, since I'm addicted to drugs.

Anyone in the Dejected Plain of Horseman with me (hairrorist)?
I've been thinking a bit and you know what? The best part is that the game's design tempts you to do stupid unhelpful stuff, like upgrading your house or hoarding items to improve your 'decoration score' which does nothing at all.
A game where one of the primary factors is the stupidity of the general internet population? Brilliant!
The admins don't even have to do anything, just watch the carnage unfold all by itself.
I wish had thought of that.
Dear all,Use one of the ones posted in this thread? If they're all used up just wait and wait for someone else to post some or offer some.
I would absolutely LOVE to try the Beta of die2night but I'm unsure how to get an invitation key.
Could anyone help (PM me if you want :)) ????
it would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks!
good god, the horde tripled in stregth last night, and we still need 100 more defence.... but we are almost out of reasources. I think this may be the last night for a number of people in The Hamlet of Murders.

god I know, not a one got through... jeez if we keep this up though, we are all gonna get over 100 points, haha we can replay with a veteran town!good god, the horde tripled in stregth last night, and we still need 100 more defence.... but we are almost out of reasources. How did we manage that?.... we should never slack off on defences for low days again, I never want to have that challenge repeated.
Interesting. Are you supposed to sit outside for as long as possible, auto-searching the same area, then come back in before midnight? I just sort of fled back to base. :-\

Guess who got last man standing? I got last man standing. You are looking at a proud Hero, folks! Mwahahaha!
Some jackass lost it and took a bunch of planks from the bank before running off into the wastes gibbering like a madman.
My god, there's a site that records towns and their scores, the current top town has survived 12 days! And only has 340 defence, while also having 34 civilians left alive!
Can you get hero status from being last man standing if you were banished?
Hurray! Forsaken survives! How did you manage to get stuck out there?I brought a water bomb and food to get me there and back, it was marked as having resources to retrieve. I didn't count on running into TWO packs of zombies on the way.
Can I get an invitation key up in here? This game sounds tight, yo.
...Yeah, I'll stop talking like that if you PM me one. :P
http://die2nite.hoah.org/townMy previous town was #3 (on day 3, no less) and seemed to be doing fine until some jackass opened the gates a few minutes before midnight.
My town is 18th, woohoo!
So I'm confused by banished people. I mean...Banished means you get locked out of town. So why don't you auto-die that night?
Damn man, we just had someone turn ALL our metal and planks into supports and patchwork beams..... freaking waste of bloody material and ap.Beta pills... go!
Some random guy who didn't do much got the hero point thingy =<
So exciting drama at the promenade of heartache:Did everyone die?
5th day, 15 citizens, zombie forecast of 210 -295, with 240 defence, great pit upgrade incoming
Late in the evening, a local decided that this might be the one that puts us under, checking to see how many people were online he saw that there were 8, and one citizen outside that might be online any minute to get back inside. He quickly locked the gate early, grabbed as many defensive items as he could from the bank, filled his house and upgraded to a hovel. He then filled his inventory with the torches to try to increase the chances of a zombie break-in.
We immediately try to banish him, but only muster the 7 votes aside from him.
**ZOMBIE ATTACK**
213 zombies attacked us.
The traitor takes 2 water rations, takes more items from the bank (depositing the burnt out torches) and upgrades his house yet again. He then sets out for some unknown reason into the adjacent zone, he spends merely 5 minutes there before quickly jogging back to town.....
Vactor, champion of the wastes stands atop the battlements, grinning, with the key to the portal lock swinging around his finger.
shit, how many soul points will i get for surviving 12 days?66 or 78 or something, if I grasp the equation correctly.
Did everyone die?

Rather frustrating, the registration code.Check thine box of PM.
I'm interested in joining this, and if anyone obtains registration codes and wouldn't mind sharing one, please, shoot me a PM.
Ohshit guys. I just realized something. Something terrible.Should these things come in I may actually play the game in earnest. As it is, most towns are just an exercise in group stupidity.

II just thought, guys. it would probably be a bad idea to join one of the 100 soul point towns once you reach 100 soul points. You should probably wait a while until at least 39 other people have that many points.... I guess?Until a town fills up the nightly attacks don't even happen and it remains night 1.
Exactly my point =oI would think it would be fun and amusing to be the only few people in a town for a while. You could build a lot of stuff.
With all 16 of your action pointsYou have to factor in the fact that no idiots will be wasting resources on hovels or getting trapped outside, etc.
Ohshit guys. I just realized something. Something terrible.I'm wondering if the 100-point-plus downs are on "hard mode"...

I wonder, does having a higher defense help you be last man standing? Cause my defense on my home was up to like 7 before the attack, and the next highest was 4 or 5
wait till he goes out scavenging, close the gates, post in the forums about why and watch as he dies a cold and painful death.
Anyone know if when I click 'use cyanide' if it will give me an option to put it in water or food that is in my bag or house? I am not really in the mood to click it and die right at the moment, but I would like to be a little devious still.
I asked on world forums, but you'll have to excuse me if I don't trust them as much as you guys.
Thanks.
So you cannot use cyanide for anything other than suicide? You can Pm it to a nweebie with this message : "try this drug buddy it's terrific".
Assuming the coffee maker is in this version, I've never seen the parts for it.I have, we couldn't make it though.
after reading the first post i really want to play it now. Anyone know where i can get some keys?I just posted some, did you try them?
but other than the cure drug the best thing you can get with two is an 8ap drug, and each one can be made into a 6ap coffee.People don't know any better.

I think my town is going to get killed by thanksgiving. :/We have a pretty good set of players too...
Night two was projected to have something like 140-200 zombies. We had something like 91 defense.
So we struck upon a brilliant plan. If we all upgraded to hovels, at least some of us would get lucky and survive the brutal onslaught. I dutifully did my part, and even cut some extra boards for others. After that, there was nothing to do but wait...
Needless to say, we all died screaming deaths in our own homes that night. 150 zombies on night two is decidedly not cool.
Now here I sit, one of the last four citizens alive in the Paralysed Hill of Bloody Tears on Day 5. One so-called "hero" ignored our pleas to help clean out the corpses and made a beeline for the bank, building a lvl-5 fort for himself and grabbing all the sheet metal and concrete blocks.
We laugh at him - he thinks himself secure in his 12-defense fort, he thinks he alone will survive to see tomorrow. We are too few to make a reliable estimate from the watchtower, but I still have my notes.
Actually it won't help him at all. I Sit there, in my home, waiting...
The sun passes slowly over head, before beginning to dip towards the Horizon to the West. Pulling myself from my chair I reach over to the door and push it open, the brighter light of the setting sun blinds me momentarily before my eyes finally adjust. Looking out over those that still wonder around the town I see them stopping before one another, open their mouths as if to say something the closing them before moving onto what ever business they had thought to do for this final day, patting each other on the shoulder as the pass. I look into one of my Neighbor's homes, and I see him there, sitting on his chair with a large smile on his face, his eyes dead to the world and a dirty glass resting in his hand, I remember hearing that he was taking Cyanide today, lucky bastard, it was the only one and he got to it first...
With a heavy sigh I climb the ladder to the watch town for the Umpteenth time today alone, up there I find Verve, setting the Binoculars down before noticing me, lifting them back up to hand them over...
"The numbers still haven't changed," he muttered as he lent back against the post of the tower, "I don't know why we keep looking, expecting something different. We are not going to live, there are somewhere between 1400 and 1500 and the walls are barely strong enough or high enough to stop even 1200 of them..."
I shake my head as I pull the viewing goggles from my eyes, they sting from the sand in the air and the sent of decay following it, I rub them but it does nothing...
"Look," Verve says suddenly, "I know we may not make it, heck I doubt even one of us would. But just know, we have survived 15 full days her in The Heartless Foothill of Crows. Its an amazing feat, towns dot out over the radio as the nights pass, some can't even get it together for more then a day and we have lasted 15 of them..." He chuckled, which caused me to chuckle. Though my throat is getting dry, and not a drop left in the well...
"Well, if I remember right" I finally say to him, "Soon its your American Thanksgiving's Day, being the Aussie I am, I have never had one but the story sounds about right, we let these Savages in to join us in a meal, or have us for a meal, while we celebrate why we are thankful..."
The laughter erupts over something that wasn't even funny to begin with echos out from the tower and over the town and desert beyond it. But it matters not, for I am thankful, I am thankful to have survived so long with folks like these, and I hope in another life, we can work together again. Who knows, most likely we will...

You could check his last town's death history.

How do you see who got hero when a town dies? Mine finally succumbed, but I can't tell who got the award.
Think I'll wait until Monday to join a new one. Can't ensure I'll really be on the next few days.
If none of us four choose to die outside the walls, there will be at least fifty zombies for every one of us.
Its the fact that people that ain't from Bay12 come on and leech the keys...
If somebody takes the effort to PM me for a key then they probably won't sign up, die in the Beyond and never play again.
Ah, so...is it worth playing the beta now then? And will the last man standing bonus still be available when it passes Beta? Will it have a paid subscription system?Of course you should. I have no clue what will happen after beta, though.
Sorry for all the questions, by the way, I'm just curious if I should get in to this game so soon before its release and the game's site answers absolutely none of these questions at all.

I'm playing, I'll post some beta keys when I get em.
How exactly do I commit suicide? I don't wish to wait for midnight.
You will also need to pay for the bugs forum too...No, I just won't report any bugs and they will miss out on the help I could offer in the form of bug reports.
What are you smoking??? I don't understand what your going on about...He was complaining about the forums and bug reporting forum being available only to paying customers. I was saying that I simply wouldn't use them rather than pay someone to report bugs.
I mean as in WHERE did he get this information, screens or it didn't happen...If you mouse over the forum title it says it.
Yeah I don't see what the big deal is about that. Finding bugs is something the game developers do themselves (or pay people to do). I'm not concerned about not being allowed to report them if I don't pay. So what? That's just foolishness on the part of the developers.
I also don't use the world forum. If I'm able to play the way I've been playing, I'll be satisfied.
In other news, I'm in the worst town ever. I joined just after the last attack, too. There's been hardly any forum activity at all. First night, ELEVEN people stayed out in the desert overnight. Last night, no one closed the gate. Twenty-something people got eaten and I got terrorized. Today I'm out scavenging by myself. I've posted a few messages in the forum and there's been no response. Looks like no one else is even active. I suppose they gave up when they saw the game was being reset. Maybe I'll at least have a shot at last man standing? Not that it will matter much since the beta's almost over I guess...
Ugh, second town in a row where people are just ignoring the group decision completely and building whatever they like. It's not even that they're new and don't know what they're doing - they posted on the forums and basically said "well, I think that we need armor plating more than a workshop, so I'm going to build it regardless of what everyone else in the town has agreed upon."
Workshop day 1 is not a requirement as many seem to believe
Workshop day 1 is not a requirement as many seem to believe
Wow at the world forum's mentality about 'griefers'.
Hell of a lot of cheese needs to be contributed to some world forum goers.
We built a Workshop on the first day, then built around 10 more constructions before the days end too, we were at 100+Def on the first day and around 200 by the second. The workshop helped alot cause we also divided ourselves into Constructors and Scavengers, The constructors would waste 2ap each day on scaving the 4 tiles that were depleated around the town so that we would have a large amount of Raw Resources for later, and the Scavs would do all the long treks. THIS worked well...
Does anyone want to try joining it, you will need to know though that there is about 10 Spots left, and 2 I believe will be taken as they are dieing2nite, you will also need to wait for about 4-5 hours or so so I can get on to invite and shit due to me being at work when the attack comes and so on. This is an offer, but know that the town mainly consists of Crow Folk and we have all worked together before and should know what we are doing.. Plus we have a Hero this time (me ^_^ )

Can you guys please post in the World Forums of D2N so I can have your Game names...My game name is the same as my name here. :)
So one of the town leaders suicided last night, and from reading the World Forums I see they were angling for a slot in the Pits.Hey I'm in your town!
I congratulate him on his decision on the Town Forums, and I get a complaint of "community extremist" in return.
End of beta is doing weird stuff to folk.
Well, you had a good run... but all good things come to an end. Tonight, they will come to an end. On that you can rely...
I hate to be the bearer of sad tidings, but hey - you'll get over it!

The people demand chaos and anarchy! Drugs and booze too!
Attack estimation : Between 289978 and 290494
Would now be the perfect opportunity to go raid the bank and build me a castle?well supposedly we get a bonus in the end but if were not dicks.
Well, one town is only getting 10-50 zombies, so they should make it through the night at least. :P
Ah remember that game, was playing while it started a few years back. Maybe should go back someday

What game? this one? I assume you played the french version then? This is just coming out of beta
Erm... how the hell did you get to day 666?The beta is ending, the devs haxxored to Day 666 to make hundreds of thousands of zombies show up and kill everyone, lol
The way I see it, there's no point, and they're likely gonna wipe real soon.
I would just join a random town and fool around.
Still, I'm gonna wait and see what the majority of the guys from my old town are gonna do.
Well, rawr and edes specifically.
When the zombie brak the door, they start attacking random villager until a sufficient number ( equal to your home defence, noramlly) attack you, then kill you.

Random chance is a big factor when it comes to everyone dieing at once...
I didn't kill any Zombs in the Crows on the last night, 2 did, around 20 each. I got LMS...
They also had strongholds while I only had a fort...
Right. Basically, it's random chance but by no means pure chance or equal chance. Stuff you do CAN increase your odds.QuoteWhen the zombie brak the door, they start attacking random villager until a sufficient number ( equal to your home defence, noramlly) attack you, then kill you.
If this is true, it is in stark contrast to what everyone has been saying on the forums, and much closer to what I've been arguing.
Also, each corpse you leave in the town (did not use water to destroy the corpse or drag it out of town) will instakill one citizen come the attack, regardless of defense.Addendum: Saw a non-dragged corpse screw with the water supply. Lost rations.
If everyone dies, regardless of number of zombies or defenses, then LMS is awarded randomly among the people who "died in their bed" (i.e. you might have more zombies on you, but they were saving you for dessert). The problem is that this is not a meaningful statement in regards to what we are discussing (and most of the rest of what you said was irrelevant).
From the point of view of a survivor it looks really random, but it's just the RNG.Err... from the point of the view of a survivor it looks random, but it's really just random? Not sure what you are getting at there. :/
I believe he's saying that everyone who dies on the final night has an equal chance of getting last man standing, regardless of who was the final person to be calculated as being dead. And I have to wonder what his source is

We know its random. What we want to know is HOW the random outcome is determined. Not all "randoms" are created equal.
If we take turns drawing cards, but I draw 2 on my turn and you draw 1, the first person to draw an Ace of Spades is random. But the odds are certainly not equal.QuoteFrom the point of view of a survivor it looks really random, but it's just the RNG.Err... from the point of the view of a survivor it looks random, but it's really just random? The developers have said that the Last Man standing is chosen randomly. They have NOT said that things you do can't change the weightings the choices are given - only that it is, ultimately, up the RNG.
I'm assuming its not the last one eaten (which would be the easiest implementation for having higher defence at the end of the day) due to the fact it's not always the last one marked as dead who gets it.It's very possible to have the highest defense by a wide margin and still be the first one eaten. It's actually more probable than my winning Hero Mode twice in a row.
Again, we have no hard data, unless someone runs an analysis on Last Man Standing awardings on a statistically significant number of towns over the course of the beta. Maybe the hoah.org people can help with that. What do you think would be a large enough number of towns to provide evidence one way or the other?

Here's the hero mode costs converted from their site, rounded up.Yeah it's a bit pricey, I'm not sure I'll do a 2nd month but I'm up for trying it out for 30 days.
1 month = 16 dollars
6 months = 40 dollars
12 months = 63 dollars
Heck, if they toned down Hero bonus and made it 5 bucks a month, heck of a lot more players would be heroes.TBH with the benefits I'd still only regularly pay about 5-8 dollars for it. I really doubt I'll continue for a 2nd month, I just wanted to give it a try.
But, I guess the price scheme is part of their balancing thing.
Demand vs Balance vs Benefits ... Or something like that.

My town is full of amazing active people, so... just chance, I guess?
Also, world forums aren't hero only. Only the help and discussion forums are. you can still post in saloon, I've heard.
So if you aren't hero you can't get new players help or discuss anything?
All the non beta people I meet are overly agressive selfing dicks who scream they will attack me for having any items in my chest. That is the slums.
That's my whole town, I waundered out into the desert with what I had.
I'm not to worried. A bunch of off-site forums will spring up, I'm sure, and I'm okay with more restricted information, so each town has its own tendril like information lines. I'm actually considering starting my own forum if I continue playing.
Actually, I feel kind of stupid saying that I feel it would be very easy to change the price or world forum lock, there's always a possibility they have a legal obligation not to change things too much. But they DID say the English version would evolve separately to the others...
Some guy called Thaistalker opened the gates before a zombie attack. 10 died, several terrorised including me. There's about 12 of us left now, on the second day.Wow, that's some crap.
I feel like bragging about our town. ^_^
We survived the first day without any zombies getting in 8)Well all you have to do for that to happen is have everyone build a tent...it's day two where it's at all possible to die. Even my town that entirely died on day two had no zombies get in on day 1.
Langdon, your bragging wins. Your town is better. :P
Langdon, your town sounds quite fun actually.Dunno, it's actually kinda weird. I mean, it's Day 5. Other towns would be at each other's throats, grabbing defensive items from the bank and building forts, trying to get LMS.
Well, our walls gives us 36 free points of defense per night, as long as we keep upgrading it, so we ARE ignoring defense for today - but we'll still have at least 70 more by the next attack anyways. :P
Your town sounds so amazingly hopeless. You seriously need to save those logs for posterity. :P
I'm in the same town as you ;). I'm travis2466Your town sounds so amazingly hopeless. You seriously need to save those logs for posterity. :P
It's like the RNG is taunting us. You know what just happened?
The guy we were waiting for came online, and we finished the rest of the 8 AP expedition route. A little scary, but the four of us all got back to town safely.
You know what else? I found a bag of cement.
I'm in the same town as you ;). I'm travis2466
I just noticed Epoqs response to the pricing discussion thread, I do think that perhaps it would be more worth buying hero time after reading it, perhaps I can get 6 months for christmas...
I have to point THIS out though:
"Also, the beauty of Die2Nite compared to other online games is that you can play for FREE, 100% of the time and still enjoy the best bit about it - the community. (We love you guys - you MAKE the game as good as it is!)"
With the world forums only allowing heroes, this is pretty much BS.
Yeah, one thing I know, there's no way in HELL I'm buying hero time until I have 100 soul points, that'd just be a waste of money. I don't want to until I'm in a meta coalition, though I might, but being able to get into one would be hard without having access to the world forums.

As someone who has bought hero time I agree it was a waste of money. I'm sure it will be great in a good town but otherwise I'm losing days to random inactives.
The concept of "wasting hero time" in a shitty town means good people will suicide early (day 2 or 3) if things are not going their way (i.e. if workshop hasn't been built). Making said town even shittier, as all that will be left are inactives and new players who don't know better. Sucks, but that's what we get for playing in the early days when the game community hasn't had a chance to settle down and build up a base of good players.I'm not that bad, myself, I never abandon my towns. I even had someone say they were really glad I was in their town and another make a topic titled *Hugs Kitsunin* when he thought he was going to die :P
In my case, Intimidating Slum (The Town That Will Not Die) lost a lot of active players on Day 2, when it was clear workshop wouldn't be built soon, including one of our three heroes. I myself did not pay for my hero time (won LMS on the 666th day at end of beta) but I can see how staying in this town can be seen as a waste, when I could be in a much more efficient town, using my Scavenger powers in well-run expeditions. Indeed, I would probably had suicided on Day 2 as well if I hadn't decided that I would stop playing the game entirely once I'd used up my hero days.
I was hoping some of the first-time players in this town would learn something from us beta veterans, but thinking back, all they can see are a bunch of depressed people going off into the desert, punching zombies, calling for help or stomping out of the gates to die.
Nonsense. When you move to a new town, post here and I'll join as well.

is the way to go.
Anyways, I remember who did well in my towns. And I have every intent of being in towns with them again. :P
Having a coalition is a huge help, and THAT is why you join crappy towns with hero time - so you can find people to recruit for your coalition.

Friends, Romans, Citizens!
"For too long have the good people of the Die2Nite universe gone unrewarded for encouraging their fellow otherlife participants to come and join them in their suffering. Today is the day we say no. Today is the day we demand change. Today is the day we want stuff... erm... free stuff... Yeah!"
We found this letter this morning nailed to a dead badger which was floating in the well, and decided that this situation must indeed be remedied. Which is why, as of today, any time you refer a friend, you will gain points towards distinctions. If they become Heroes, you will receive 20% of the number of days they purchase - totally free!
So what are you waiting for citizen? If you bring 5 friends you could play as a Hero, 100% of the time for FREE!
To learn how to invite friends, simply go to your Soul page, and click the Sponsorship tab to get all the details!
Good Luck. You'll still need it!
I got a coalition formed, those who wish to join simply reply on this thread with your in game names, I will try to invite you asap.
How unfortunate, want an invite to my coalition? :)

I'm kinda expecting that I die2nite. Does anyone have any hints and tips on how I can do a better job next town? I'm peticularily interested in how to efficiently scavange the wastes.

Go on expeditions to good spots (buildings and the like). If no one is planning them, plan them yourself.
Try to get a group of 3-4 people to agree to go on the expedition around the same time and plan to come back to town around 22:00 or so. That'll make traveling out safer and saves weapons for saving people or other emergencies. Plus, 4 people autosearching a square all night is going to maximize the amount of stuff you'll get out of it.
This village sucks, everyone's building hovels and one guy has built a shack (stealing the planks we needed for our defense construction tonight to do so) and stolen all the defensive items from the bank to keep in his house. We're not going to make it through tonight, and it's only our second day!
Yes, obviously the person who said they were going to close the gate did not. Blargh.
I managed to survive into day 3! woohoo. theres 14 of us left, we lost 16 in this nights attack. We have some defences but not neaaarly enough... and no workshop. We need to get our shit together and get ourselves a workshop today

on an unrelated note. How important is it to get rid of all the dead bodies? :P
I died it seems, infection. On the plus side I killed a zombie with my bare hands :)
They are nice as "surprises" for the guy who yanks all the defense items out of the bank and builds a fort.on an unrelated note. How important is it to get rid of all the dead bodies? :PFun things happen if you don't.
Not necessarily. If you (Like me) go to rescue someone, wait 40 minutes for them to get online so they can escape with you, get called to go the store, then find they left without bothering to check if you're actually there, call for help yourself, wait 8 hours, then have to go to bed, you pretty much are forced to escape and get wounded. Of course Squidgy might well have just been an annoying guy who runs into a zone full of zeds, then escapes before even bothering to ask for help.I died it seems, infection. On the plus side I killed a zombie with my bare hands :)
you're doin it wrong.

Yeah this is why I don't rescue someone unless I can get a confirmation that they are on right now.I got to where he was two effing minutes after he called for help too -.-
Or if there are only 3-4 zombies in his zone because as a guardian I can leave even the rescuee is a dick.

Yes, but I still killed a zombie with my bare hands.
In my latest most people are just sitting outside AFK as the zombie hordes approach.
Or do you mean they never come back to town and get eaten in the attack?
This one. I posted that right before the end of the day and people were sitting right outside when the gate should be closed, without any post to indicate they needed more time for a search. I blame that problem more on apathy than stupidity though. Still rather annoying that people would join a town only to get themselves killed on the first day.But of course that's what 90% of players of the game seem to do, at this point :-\

Oh wow. I'm the first person to join this town. The cave of the shunned.
5 hours
My town is now fucked. Some guy named rubencolll opened the gates right before the piston lock time, no one noticed/was on, and half of our population died. Down to 13 people on day 3, 10 of which are terrorized.
There are too many people out to screw the town over just for lulz.
Also, I can't say i'm a fan of this whole 'hero' thing. I mean, yes, they need money but barring normal players from even posting on the global forum, giving the heroes amazingly powerfull abilites and the ability to upgrade their house rubs me the wrong way.Don't say they get amazingly powerful abilities, they don't. I however hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate the way they basically remove everyone who isn't a hero from being a part of the community.
I don't know, the community isn't that great anyways. A strong and vibrant offsite community will develop soon enough, I'm sure.
The hero abilities are certainly NICE, but they are by no means super powerful, and the decent house upgrades are on a strict "you only need one or two per town" basis (Kitchen and Drug Lab)
Siesta is not that great, but maybe that's cause I generally haven't had a lot of Hero Time to mess with - you need to last 10 days on average for the investment to pay off, after all.
If you could only convert 2 food, then you had a lv2 kitchen.
5 hours
Ouch, my first town right after beta was like that.
Hope it didn't fill up before the attack tonight.
No, Langdon! Join the Bay12 town! We waaaant youuuuuu! You sound like you're good at this!
Solution: Don't bother getting up at 6AM for a game. No, Langdon! Join the Bay12 town! We waaaant youuuuuu! You sound like you're good at this!
I would if I was playing after this town. Unfortunately I'm quitting - 23:00 is 6 AM in HKT, and I'm realizing I don't want to keep setting my alarm early just to play a web game.
Maybe I'll try it again in a couple of months when I'm back in the US.
Uh... you don't have to be there at gate closing to play, you know? Expeditions run throughout the day, if those are what you prefer, and if you build it doesn't really matter when you get on. :/
Solution: Don't bother getting up at 6AM for a game.
As far as I can tell, simply because he wanted people to be doing his bidding and got angry at me because I voiced my disagreement when I thought he was wrong about something.
I have to say, my current town (Dune of Armageddon) is by far the best I've ever been in. Everyone is cooperating, AP is being used efficiently, no one has built anything more than a tent, we've got an incredible amount of stuff built for the third day, and I think we're going to last a long time. What incredible luck to land in a town with good players!
Just a quick update on Arrakisdef, the asshole to rule assholes:
He's apparently decided to join a scavenging party and therefore assumes that now everyone in town will build the things he says are the best for construction, never mind the fact that they're poor choices, people have already agreed on other projects and we don't even have the materials for some of his suggestions.
I think, maybe, that this guy is actually delusional

He's banished, and he's tagging along with a scavenging party? Maybe he's just messing with them, hoping they'll drop something important that he can grab.
Well sort of, he brought home 2 planks and upgraded his hovel ::)
He might not have done anything to help the town but he also didn't hurt it. Griefers or selfish players are much worst than inactives. He was probably lucky and got in an otherwise good town, shame he couldn't be there to help them really.Saying it's okay is sort of like saying you don't need to vote, after all, one person won't hurt...what does hurt, is when 75% of a lot of towns are inactive, and I'm sure many of them thought "Eh, I'm just one guy out of 40, I can be inactive"
Yay, ADD people everywhereDude, if you survived long enough to get barbs up, even if it's something you really really didn't want built, don't suicide, you are lucky.
We posted 10 message NOT to build upgraded map and the like, since we needed the iron for workshop. So they go oin and build barbs and wall strenthening. If tonihght we dont have enough iron for workshop ill just go sleep in the desert.

Is there a coalition for Bay12Games members?
If I die in my current town, do I have the ability to pick that town to join?
You can't unless you're a hero...If I die in my current town, do I have the ability to pick that town to join?
Nope you start in a new town again.
I suggest check the player list for players you know before joining.
You sure? You could in the beta, the little plus next to the town showed who was in it. You couldn't choose which town to join but there was rarely more than one so join random would always join that one. They got rid of a number of features after the beta ended...I think that, and the World Forums.
Out of curiosity, how many days do you have to survive in a row to get 100 soul points immediately?
I still don't know how I feel about getting to the factory on day 1. -1 AP isn't that great, really. You have to take into account how many projects you have to do to repay the cost of the building AND the resources. It is quiet a few.
Not only that, but by day 3 or 4, planks are very much the least of your worries. You really need either the upgraded tower to replenish zones or some way of clearing out Zombies so you can make it to the non-depleted ones. No nuts and bolts = no advanced defense and no surviving day 6.
If you can get zones going non-depleted from day 1, you stand to gain a hell of a lot more than if you can get converting logs to planks.
I am saying don't build the workshop and factory on day 1. Get your tower up, get the addition that lets you undeplete zones, and upgrade that addtion on day one. Many many zones get depleted the first day, you need to get the recharged asap. Day two can see the workshop and possibly the factory. You shouldn't need to be converting logs to planks before then anyways. If you can get zones going non-depleted from day 1, you stand to gain a hell of a lot more than if you can get converting logs to planks.
I don't see how building the factory stops you doing that?

This would be in an ideal, theoretical town, where everyone reads the forums.
In an actual game, you've got half the town clicking on anything buildable on the first day (instead of going out to scavenge). You need workshop for survival reasons - you can usually only hoard enough mats for one building, and if you don't hoard for it, you'll lose the chance to build it later.
If you do not make workshop a priority, all your planks will be belong to them.

what do you build instead of the workshop and factory?
bare in mind that we'd also have the wall, watertower and seachtower anyway.
WTH? How? !?
- Midnight in-game is at a time when most people in real life have stuff to do, at 5 PM. That means if someone decides to open up the gates and go mosey, or just decides to troll everyone by opening the gate to get everyone killed, game over. So there's an upgrade that sets gates unable to be opened for the last 20 minutes of the day, but not a clock or something you can rig to automatically slam the gates shut at a specific hour? What sense does that make?
Although I agree with your other point this one is hardly a valid complaint, this is just because of where you live. Bear in mind this is developed by a Euopean company and the size of the French and German versions are vastly larger than the English one. For most of their players midnight is close to midnight.
Not really.... I join a game... I expect time to work the same as any other town.Although I agree with your other point this one is hardly a valid complaint, this is just because of where you live. So ideally the solution is to set towns to the average timezone of everyone in the group, at least in the English version of the game. If 30 people are on the east coast, then midnight in the town is midnight EST. If there's 21 English chaps, midnight in game is midnight GMT. This seems pretty reasonable to me?
My solution is to have the attack occur every 12 hours instead of every 24. Then everybody can be fairly equally inconvenienced!
And if you don't wake up every two hours into your sleep you die of dehydration, yayness! My solution is to have the attack occur every 12 hours instead of every 24. hum what hourly attacks, but daily food and water, maybe with hourly ap too?
Don't forget the one suicide we had.Oh woe is me! My one and only true friend did not come back into town last night. I shall join him tonight. Please, do not stop me, I cannot bear to be without! I have lost all will to live!

Another? Cool. What's your handle in game?Sherlock84! :D
8 Different Houses have padlocks last I checked
2 HiFi, 4 Trolleys and a whisk were built
Someone has 2 cats in their house
Someone else has 2 animals in their house
Another guy has 8 food items stashed in his house
1 addicted person
Everyone is upgrading into Shacks and Houses
2-3 kleptomaniacs
People have put AP into temporary defenses, but we don't need em
Incidentally, doesn't that mean you're very dependent on successfully scavenging defensive items?
Must you kill my:Dtrollingfun withthe truthyour blatant lies?
We're the first people recorded on the map site (http://die2nite.gamerz.org.uk/) to ever have made it this far (day 26). =DThat's odd, since I was sure Disturbed Plaine made it to day 26 first.

I just joined as 'Elsior' using Griffin as my referrer. Remember me, Noryasha Grunks?
Any advices, guys?
That's odd, since I was sure Disturbed Plaine made it to day 26 first.
What? How do you get defense that high?
Also, is there a limit to how much you can build? If everyone was in sync could they build everything the game had to build?
Anyone still playing this?Sometimes. Not very often though.
I've still got about 23 hero days to use up, and I'd rather play with people I can trust not to be idiots. The last random town I joined failed hard.
Premades are maxed at 20 players now.Specifically you can only have 20 townspeople who join as a coalition OR choose the town from the menu. The other 20 must be randomly placed in the town.

So they've just increase the amount of randomness in the game? That is part of the game... Skill and cooperation play a large part in how well you deal with the random shit that is thrown at you.
:/ the fact it was always just random how long you could last because of the water and defensive item buildings was the reason I stopped playing.
Have a load of premium days left too.

It's not part of the game. The skill and cooperation is the randomness is not, it's just randomness.
After you organise there is nothing you can do to effect the long term survival further than the randomness allows, your input to the game means nothing after this stage.
You end up knowing after the first few days approximately how long you can last and that is just dull.
Yep some games are like that... where once you know how the game actually works they become dull...
Advanced Wars for example.
I'm guessing you don't like roguelikes either. They're largely dependent on random events and how you deal with them. I can see your line of reasoning up to a certain point, but players who know what they are doing can deal with random events better than people who are disorganized or new to the game. That is part of the game... The entire premise of the game is that you're going to die anyway, so make the best of it and have fun.

I love roguelikes, but your missing the point. Roguelikes generate random content an events and who you deal with them effects your long term survival.
Die2Nite the random events dictate how long you'll last and nothing you can do effects that.
In the first case there is game play, in the second it's just a dice roll.
Hmm. Actually, I should probably hold off on joining a new game until Oct. 11th. I'm going to be out of town for a few days the weekend before, with no way to get internet. No point in joining a town just to die of dehydration partway into it.
